Reciprocity:

The Pendulum Swings BOTH Ways …

— Tony Wirebach, Berks County Patriots

Interesting times, these.

A lot of chatter in the background noise of public opinion, whether Trump is a “legitimate” POTUS. Fake News. Fake Outrage. Fake Virtue Signaling on the Left. The buzz about our new President-Elect may be true, false, or may be a little bit of both. But I must keep reminding myself: Consider the source! If a Liar Lies about Lying, are they really telling the Truth?? Hmmmm.

I think a lot about the original Exorcist movie. Father Merrin gives explicit warning to Father Karras as they prepare to face the demon:

” … Especially important is the warning to avoid conversations with the demon. We may ask what is relevant but anything beyond that is dangerous. He is a liar. The demon is a liar. He will lie to confuse us. But he will also mix lies with the truth to attack us. The attack is psychological, Damien, and powerful. So don’t listen to him. Remember that – do not listen. “

Politics is downstream from culture. A civil and virtuous people will have a civil and virtuous government. A society full of ass-hats will have a government full of ass-hattery for sure … I’m not criticizing Trumpists. Those who favor Trump unquestioningly are the reactionary side effect of the Obama administration. Identity-politics pushes one way, with fringe groups against the mainstream — and the mainstream finally pushes back, aggressively. Political Correctness crosses one too many lines in the sand, and suddenly the politically incorrect start kicking sand back in the faces those who have been harassing them for years.

Society is based on Reciprocity. Reciprocal virtues, reciprocal vices. Civility AND Hostility.

In other words: They’ve got it comin’ to them.

The Left has been rude and condescending for years, and the “good guys” at National Review, or rather: Conservative Policy Wonks and Washington “insiders” … trying to lead by example, have failed yet again. Civility has failed. Being informed and reasonable has lost race after race after race. As the saying goes: You cannot negotiate with terrorists. Van Jones critical of Trump? So frickin what?!?

It seems to me that everything they have accused Trump of doing has been unceremoniously ignored or lauded on their side of the political spectrum since FOREVER. That means that the false outrage spewing forth over this albeit close election is nothing more than smoke and mirrors. We should just ignore it.

Suck it up, cupcakes. Everyone gets the government they deserve, that means Trump, not Hillary.

Only time will tell if Trump is a hero or a villain. Knowing what I know about human nature, I suspect he will be a little bit of both. Government as legally-sanctioned force against the will of the people is an unavoidable aspect of reality. As a Conservative, I would obviously prefer conservative governance, but this perhaps is nothing more than a pipe dream. National governments run contrary to conservative, classic-liberalism, and we do not live in a conservative era. In the FaceBook arena, the speed with which “the public” can react to all things newsworthy and not, gives people more influence on policy and news than ever before in human history. Ergo: Populism on the loose. For good or for bad, that is the rule of the day, and I fear that, from now on, elections will only be won by the best-known celebrities, not by the greatest ideas or their advocates.

In the mean time, let us hope (and pray!) for the best in a new Trump Administration. Put your faith in God that His plan is playing itself out, even if we do not understand it. Remember NOT to put our faith in Kings (or Showmen!), but try to treat each other well, whether we deserve it or not. Let’s lead by example, reducing the influence of government in our lives, by in fact reducing our dependence on the government to solve our problems for us. Look to our communities and families for help, do not look to loot and pillage our neighbors, or people in other states. Use what gifts we have been given to live a life of Virtue, regardless of whether government protects our rights or not. Make the most of what time we have given and the people we have been blessed with in our lives, as history plays itself out, and the Pendulum swings on.

That is after all, all we CAN do, even if it is not what we wanted, or what we think we deserved. As the saying goes: That’s Life.
