Letter Writer Warns Public about SB 251

Share

To All Pennsylvania Senators and Representatives:
I am sending this letter to all the media in Pennsylvania and thousands of tax-paying drivers.
You should VOTE NO ON SB 251. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Tom McCarey
————————————————————————————————————–
Dear Editor:
The Senate Appropriations Committee shamefully voted in favor of SB 215, giving RADAR and LIDAR to local cops in Pennsylvania. SB 251 should be renamed the “Speed Traps Everywhere Bill.”
The Committee know that there is no epidemic of reckless speeding on Pennsylvania roads. PennDOT recently announced that Pennsylvania highways are the safest they have ever been. The Committee are woefully ignorant of true highway safety, as well.
Proper speed limits are set at the 85th Percentile Speed of free flowing traffic: this is the safest speed with the most compliance. https://www.motorists.org/issues/speed-limits/
Instead of setting limits at the safest speed, they are posted low to facilitate citation writing. They don’t care if you are safe, they only want your money.
What the Committee has voted for are unsafe speed limits in order to maximize the revenue stolen from reasonable and prudent drivers through citations.
The beneficiaries of RADAR and LIDAR are the companies who make the equipment, auto insurers through premium surcharges, the politicians who accept campaign contributions from both, and the government who gets a never ending stream of revenue. For the real reason behind RADAR and LIDAR, follow the money. It’s YOUR money.
Every Pennsylvania driver should contact their Senator and Representative and tell them to VOTE NO on HB 215. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Tom McCarey Member, National Motorists Association
