***PRESS RELEASE***
Wagner Abandons Pennsylvania Social Conservatives

Wagner has taken tens of thousands from LGBT activist mega donors who have targeted Pennsylvania social conservative leaders

PITTSBURGH – Today the Pennsylvania Family Council announced that it was forced to postpone its Republican gubernatorial forum because State Senator Scott Wagner had backed out.  It’s no surprise that Wagner would not want to address Pennsylvania social conservatives since he has time and again poked them in their eye.

Matt Beynon, Advisor to Mango for Governor, said: “It’s no surprise that Scott Wagner would run away from addressing social conservatives.  Scott Wagner has aligned himself with the most radical elements of the liberal Left, including proposing changing bathroom laws and associating with donors who have targeted strong Pennsylvania social conservative leaders like Rick Santorum. Paul Mango has laid out a clear vision for Pennsylvania families and he will put that up against Scott Wagner’s proposals to undermine traditional family values at any time and any place.”

Scott Wagner admits “social issues aren’t most important to him” and takes a pro-abortion position of not improving Pennsylvania’s laws respecting the dignity of life.
  • “He’s not a religious person, and social issues aren’t most important to him, he said. While pro-life, he thinks the state’s Abortion Control Act is doing its job and he has no desire to change the law, he said.” (Christina Kauffman, “York County’s Newest Senator Scott Wagner Will Be Energetic ‘Outsider,'” The York Dispatch, 4/2/14)
Scott Wagner has accepted tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from some of the most extreme liberal activists in the country – including mega donor Tim Gill who has personally targeted Pennsylvania social conservatives like former Senator Rick Santorum.

  • The megadonor bankrolling the LGBT movement and its allies in the Democratic Party says he will continue to “punish the wicked” who hold traditional views about sexual morality. (Bradford Richardson, “Gay megadonor on going after Christians: ‘We’re going to punish the wicked,” Washington Times, 7/19/17)
  • Mr. Gill is a software programmer who made his fortune during the dot-com boom and has since poured more than $400 million into advancing the LGBT movement. (Bradford Richardson, “Gay megadonor on going after Christians: ‘We’re going to punish the wicked,” Washington Times, 7/19/17)
  • “The software mogul Tim Gill has a mission: Stop the Rick Santorums of tomorrow before they get started.” (Joshua Green, “They Won’t Know What Hit Them,” The Atlantic, March 2007 edition)
  • Scott Wagner’s PA Reform PAC took a $5000 contribution from Tim Gill and also took $10,000 from the Pennsylvanians for Economic Competitiveness, a report funded by Gill and other liberal donors from across the country (Reform PAC PA State Campaign Finance Filing, 2015)
Wagner is the lead Republican proponent of legislation (SB 974) to change Pennsylvania’s bathroom laws to allow individuals to choose a bathroom based on personal choice rather than biological makeup.

  • A long-stalled bill that would offer workplace and other protections to Pennsylvania’s LGBT citizens could finally be getting a jump start this week – from the unlikeliest of all places: A committee chaired by Sen. Scott Wagner, R-York County. (John Micek, “LGBT rights bill finds ally,” www.PennLive.com, 6/14/16)
Wagner proudly boasted that he would not succumb to the pressure of traditional family values leaders who were urging him to take his name off this legislation.

  • “I have been asked to remove my name as a co-sponsor of SB 974 because of recent events in the news related to how bathrooms are dealt with in other states, as well as President Obama’s recent directive regarding schools and Title IX funding. Let me be very clear – I will not be removing my name from this legislation.” (Sen. Scott Wagner Press Release: “Wagner Issues Statement on SB974,” 5/27/16)
Wagner’s then-Chief of Staff, and current gubernatorial campaign manager, Jason High even said: “It’s time to move this [bill] and force the conversation.” (John Micek, “LGBT rights bill finds ally,” www.PennLive.com, 6/14/16)
Wagner has received praise for his position on bathrooms from the most liberal members of the Democratic Caucus.  In a June 23, 2016 Floor Speech, Sen. Larry Farnese (D) praised Wagner for “his courage and commitment to move” on LGBT Rights legislation. LARRY FARNESE: “So I know we are going to move forward with this, Mr. President, and, again, I commend the Members of that committee, as well as my good friend, Senator Fontana, who was able to articulate, much better than I can, the issues and the support that the community had echoed for years and was able to get that bill out of committee and make a historic step for LGBT folks across this State. I also commend the chairman of that committee, Senator Wagner, on his courage and commitment to move that, as well as the Members of the committee who voted to go in that direction.” (Sen. Larry Farnese, Pennsylvania Senate, Legislative Journal, 6/23/16, p. 625)
