News Release: More than 120 Veterans Apply for Free Health Care at Lebanon VAMC Open House

For Immediate Release – Feb. 16, 2018

LEBANON, Pa. – More than 120 South Central PA Veterans applied to receive free health care during Lebanon VA Medical Center’s Open House and Enrollment Fair on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

Although Veterans can always apply in person, online or over the phone, the medical center held a special event to encourage Veterans to see what VA can offer to them. Many Veterans are eligible to receive free health care, while others can receive free treatment for service-related conditions and cost-effective care for other conditions.

“It is imperative that Veterans take advantage of the VA programs for which they are eligible,” said Robert W. Callahan, Jr., medical center director. “Around 70 percent of Veterans who took their own lives last year were not users of VA services. For some Veterans, enrolling in VA health care is literally a life-saving decision. For others, it can ease their budget or provide access to care that the private sector simply can’t match. Either way, I encourage all Veterans to enroll and see VA for themselves.”

Veterans can enroll by calling 717-228-6000, visiting Lebanon VA Medical Center in person, or at www.va.gov/healthbenefits/apply.

Lebanon VA Medical Center is one of 170 medical centers in the nation with the sole purpose of providing world-class medical care to America’s Veterans. Lebanon VAMC serves a nine county area in South Central Pennsylvania covering Adams, Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, and Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, Schuylkill and York counties. Lebanon VAMC also currently oversees community clinics located in Camp Hill, Lancaster, Pottsville, Wyomissing, York and Fort Indiantown Gap. If you are a Veteran, you may be eligible to receive care and benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. To learn more, call 717-228-6000.
