Mark Your Calendar for My Upcoming Meeting on the Spotted Lanternfly

In light of the continued growth of the spotted lanternfly quarantine area, I will be hosting a public meeting on Thursday, April 5, at 6:30 p.m. to provide information to area residents about this invasive species and the efforts to halt its spread.

The meeting, which will be held in the Upper Perkiomen High School auditorium, will feature experts from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and Penn State Extension. In addition to a summary of the spotted lanternfly’s biology, the quarantine and the ongoing control efforts, the presentation will include information about steps that home and property owners can take to protect their properties from this invasive species.

The spotted lanternfly is indigenous to Southeast Asia and was first spotted in the United States in 2014 in Berks County. The insect is considered to be a threat to Pennsylvania’s agricultural and forestry industries. The quarantine area was recently expanded to include 13 Pennsylvania counties. Lehigh, Montgomery and Northampton counties are part of the quarantine area, as are Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lebanon, Monroe, Philadelphia and Schuylkill counties.

The meeting is free and open to the public. For additional information about the meeting, please contact my Red Hill office at (215) 679-3152.

For additional information about the spotted lanternfly, please visit the Department of Agriculture’s website.
