Paul Mango Press Release–Sons and Daughters

Mango launches “Sons and Daughters”

“Any candidate who believes the Pennsylvania Abortion Control Act is doing its job is a pro-choice politician.” – former U.S. Senator, two-time Republican presidential candidate, and Pennsylvania’s pro-life leader Rick Santorum

PITTSBURGH – Republican gubernatorial candidate Paul Mango released a new statewide television advertisement entitled “Sons and Daughters.”  “Sons and Daughters” will be airing in each media market throughout the Commonwealth, highlighting Paul Mango’s commitment to protecting the unborn and shining a spotlight on Scott Wagner’s pro-choice rhetoric.
Paul Mango said: “For the over 30,000 innocent unborn children aborted every year, our Commonwealth’s Abortion Control Act is not doing its job.  The loss of human life, particularly the destruction of an innocent unborn baby, is a tragedy.  Any politician who would defend the existing law as ‘doing its job’ is belittling the dignity of those innocent children and clearly will not fight for a Culture of Life.  As Pennsylvania’s next Governor, I will be committed to making sure that the most innocent and vulnerable in our society have a champion fighting for them each and every day.”

In an interview with his hometown newspaper, Scott Wagner admitted “social issues aren’t most important to him” and says he thinks “the state’s Abortion Control Act is doing its job and he has no desire to change the law.”
  • “He’s not a religious person, and social issues aren’t most important to him, he said. While pro-life, he thinks the state’s Abortion Control Act is doing its job and he has no desire to change the law, he said.” (Christina Kauffman, “York County’s Newest Senator Scott Wagner Will Be Energetic ‘Outsider,'” The York Dispatch, 4/2/14)
Under the current Abortion Control Act, over 30,000 abortions are taking place each year in Pennsylvania, including late term abortions.  Does Scott Wagner think the law is “doing its job” by allowing over 30,000 abortions each year?
Pennsylvania’s leading national pro-life political leader, former Senator and Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum said: “Any candidate who believes the Pennsylvania Abortion Control Act is doing its job is a pro-choice politician.”  Santorum is the author of every major federal pro-life law enacted over the past 25 years, including the ban on the heinous procedure known as “Partial Birth Abortion.”
By contrast, Paul Mango has been endorsed by the Pro-Life Coalition of Pennsylvania.  In their endorsement of Paul Mango, the Pro-Life Coalition of Pennsylvania highlighted Paul Mango’s commitment to advancing the pro-life cause while warning of State Senator Scott Wagner’s extreme, liberal social policy positions.
The Pro-Life Coalition of Pennsylvania said that “clear and significant differences exist between Paul Mango and Scott Wagner.”  They believed Paul Mango embraced his Catholic faith, “which provides a basis for his strongly pro-life views,” while Scott Wagner “declined to accept (a faith-based) basis for pro-life beliefs.  Instead he readily admitted that he has no religious beliefs or background.”
On February 11th, Wagner officially declined to participate in the Together for Pennsylvania forum hosted by the Pennsylvania Family Institute where issues pertaining to Life, religious liberty, and other moral and cultural issues would have been the focus.  Unfortunately, Senator Wagner would not participate in a discussion about why his values are in sharp contrast to the commitment to life Paul Mango has focused on.
