VA’s Indiantown Gap National Cemetery to Observe Memorial Day

Community Encouraged to Attend

For Immediate Release – May 11, 2018

ANNVILLE, PA – U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will host its 35th annual Memorial Day Program on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at 2 p.m. rain or shine. This year’s program is sponsored by the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Memorial Council.

The Memorial Day Program will be held in the PA Veterans Memorial, which was dedicated on Oct. 27, 2001. James R. Metcalfe II, director of Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, will welcome the audience. Gary E. Crowel—Marine Corps Veteran, CEO of Veterans Employment Opportunities, and executive director of Veterans Rising—will deliver the Memorial Day address. Paul F. Hastings, former national commander of the Marine Corps League, will serve as master of ceremony.

The Washington Band will play several musical selections and individuals will lay wreaths memorializing those who died in the service of their country. The Avenue of Flags display will be flown through Veterans Week, Nov. 17. The Avenue of Flags is made up of casket flags that have been donated by veterans’ families. State, territories, and service flags will also be flown.

Shuttle bus transportation to and from designated parking areas to the Cemetery will be provided. Signs will be posted indicating designated shuttle bus and parking areas. There will be limited handicapped parking on the cemetery grounds.

Due to limited seating in the PA Veterans Memorial, it is suggested attendees bring lawn chairs.
