Stay Safe this Summer

Happy first month of summer! To help everyone enjoy a happy & safe season, I have compiled a list of some tips & reminders:

Always remember to stay hydrated! You can become dehydrated even if you don’t realize it, always keep a bottle of water on hand.
Remember to never leave pets or children in a car, no matter how quick you think you’ll be. Temperatures in a car can vastly exceed the outdoor temperature.
Be cognizant on how hot surfaces or tarmac can affect your dog’s or pet’s paws!
If going hiking or other outdoor activities, always remember to check for ticks (and bring water!)
Similarly, if you are going to be spending a lot of time outdoors, remember to put on sunscreen and/or wear a hat. UV rays are dangerous!
For outdoor activities, always remember to bring bug spray – help prevent those pesky bugs, as well as help prevent any tick borne illnesses.
If you are going swimming, particularly if you are elderly or a young child, always have a partner to ensure your safety!
Children without immediate adult supervision should always abide by the buddy system.
Always practice diligent firework safety…(or just leave it to the professionals!)
Children should be aware that playground equipment can get incredibly hot throughout the summer.
If you are biking, always remember to wear a helmet, and if at night, bright clothes!
Be aware of the poison ivy and its symptoms, which include a rash that is red, itchy, and swollen, and can also have hives or blisters.
Finally, be aware of signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which include  heavy sweating, rapid pulse, dizziness, fatigue, cool, moist skin with goose bumps when in the heat, muscle cramps, nausea and headache.
