Letter Writer questions Smart Meters

Share
I am a member of a group of over 200 concerned citizens called Pennsylvanians Against Smart Meters (PASM), with a Facebook page by the same name. The so-called “smart” meters, digital utility meters which are replacing our old (but not outdated), safe and reliable analog meters, are a bad idea on so many levels. First, they emit RFR or radiofrequency radiation which the World Health Organization classifies as a probable Class 2B carcinogen. This past March, the National Toxicology Program has shown clear evidence of RFR as a cancer-causing agent. Also, google Bioinitiative 2012 for more evidence. Besides recording your electrical output, they will be used without your consent (since they are mandatory in Pennsylvania unlike most other states which have an opt-out choice) as a surveillance device and an intrusion on your privacy.  A recent court case in Illinois has called into question 4th Amendment concerns. Also, they are inherently unsafe, have been known to explode and cause fires in which people have died. Most, if not all, have no Underwriters Laboratory seal of approval. Furthermore, they are at risk of being hacked. Former CIA Director James Woolsey has stated, ” A smart grid which can be hacked is not smart, but a really, really stupid grid.” And so it is a national security risk. Last but not least, smart meters can lead to higher electric bills. Since the smart meter was installed on our house, 6 of our last 7 bills have been higher compared with the same time period in the previous year. How is this progress?  And I haven’t even mentioned the 5G rollout, where small cell towers will be placed on telephone poles or buildings every 2 to 10 homes as close as 30 feet from your children’s bedrooms. Think about it.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            PASM (Pennsylvanians Against Smart Meters)
