This month’s Argall Report:  Revitalization in Shenandoah and Hamburg

HAMBURG – This month’s local TV program hosted by Senator David G. Argall (R-Schuylkill/Berks) focuses on the ongoing revitalization in Shenandoah and Hamburg.

Shenandoah, located in Schuylkill County, saw the peak of its population in 1910 when close to 26,000 people lived in the borough. With the decline of thousands of coal jobs in the area, the population of the community today is under 5,000 people. Hamburg, located in Berks County, has never recorded a population of more than 5,000 people, but the community has been steadily rising in population since 1990.

“These two communities are classic examples of what happened to towns across the anthracite region once the railroad and coal industries declined and jobs were lost” Senator Argall said. “Here you have two communities, one in Schuylkill County and one in Berks County, which are working to reverse the trend of outmigration by focusing on efforts to bring in more jobs, recreational opportunities and commerce to the area.”

This edition of the Argall report will air on:

  • Blue Ridge Communications (Channel 13) every Monday at 10 a.m. and every Wednesday at 10:30 p.m.
  • Berks Community Television (Comcast – Channel 15 and Service Electric – Channel 19) on Thursday at 8 p.m. and Friday at 6 p.m.
  • Comcast On-Demand on Channel 1 – Get Local – Government – State Senate.
  • Reading (Channel 21) and Hamburg (Channel 19) every Monday at 3 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and every Tuesday at 9 a.m.
  • The program is available on Shen-Heights TV, Hazleton’s WLYN TV 35 and MetroCast Communications Channel 10.  Please check local listings for air times.
