Diane Schaffer, resident of Emmaus, announces her candidacy, seeking the position of school director on the board of East Penn School District [EPSD], on the ballot of both the Republican and Democratic parties.

Mrs. Schaffer’s childhood dream was to become a public school teacher.  While circumstances put her on a different path, she has always been an advocate for children, and for quality education.

After receiving a high school diploma from Slatington High School, Slatington PA, and attending Catawba College in Salisbury NC, Diane Schaffer became involved in numerous ways to express her interest in children and education.

In addition to raising two sons, with her husband Frank Schaffer, and enjoying six grandchildren, she has been a school bus driver, on the staff of a children’s day care center, and has volunteered as a Sunday School teacher and Brownie leader.  With her husband, she has provided a home for ten foster children, and fifteen exchange students, through which she also served as a representative for student exchange program.  Mrs. Schaffer also served for thirty-two years on the board of the Bethany Children’s Home at Womelsdorf PA, and for many of those years was the board secretary.

With regard to her interests in education, Diane Schaffer served for a dozen years on the board of school directors of the Pleasant Valley School District [PVSD] at Brodheadsville PA, as member, vice-president, president.  While on the PVSD board, she was selected to serve on the Monroe Career and Technical Institute for ten years as member, secretary, president.

Mrs. Schaffer sees her experiences as helpful in serving on the board of directors of the EPSD.  Her primary interests in serving are that the East Penn School District provide quality education, emphasizing academic excellence, and also that adequate security be provided for students and teachers in all the district schools.  She is also concerned that the district expend funds as efficiently as possible so that taxes can be lowered.
