Pennsylvania Liberty Alliance Report

Hello,

As Pennsylvania Liberty Alliance continues our statewide work spreading the word about school property tax elimination, one thing is clear:

People across our state agree with us. And why wouldn’t they?

Pennsylvania taxpayers of all ages are fed up with our current antiquated system.

They see the problems that the property tax causes, from the unfairness of the tax, to the gross inequities in education spending, to 10,000+ people losing their homes every year.

So the question is not do folks agree with us on this issue, but will we have the resource to get the message out to thousands more across the state who are unaware of this effort?

You and I may be aware, but so many folks that

PA Liberty Alliance President, Ron Boltz answers Commonwealth Foundation.

Jennifer,

I understand the “cheer leading” aspect of this email, and I don’t fault your organization for making a loss look like a win. Indeed, I believe running this vote was a “win” as well, but probably for different reasons. I don’t expect victories every time and I’m glad this vote took place.

That being said, what is frustrating to those of us who pay close attention and are heavily involved in politics is the continued glorification by CF of House leadership. With a failure to get 26 “republicans” to vote for such a simple concept (and word has it many more were prepared to vote “no” to protect the unions if need be

Pennsylvania Liberty Alliance goes to Scranton area

Hello PA Liberty Alliance friends and volunteers! We’re baaaaack! After a short hiatus, we’re starting our first post-referendum effort near Scranton. We know Sen Blake will be facing opposition in the Spring and Fall during next year’s elections, so we’re starting to set the tone, early.

Don’t worry, we’re not giving up on Sen McGarrigle or Delaware County. In fact, he asked to meet with us just last week, after a few PLA volunteers crashed his Senior Expo last month and riled up about 100 seniors! SEE photos attached. Let’s just say we have his attention and he’s talking. The translation is that he needs to feel more political pain and I think I know who can deliver that!!

Pennsylvania Liberty Alliance Urges a “Yes” vote on Tuesday’s Referendum

Hello, On November 7th, Pennsylvanians will be voting on a property tax exclusion referendum. Some people are not aware of this ballot question, and others are confused as to what the question is about. The PA Liberty Alliance strongly recommends a YES vote. Here is a short explanation and a little bit of history…

In 1998, the legislature enacted a “Homestead/Farmstead” exclusion that could have provided up to a 50% exclusion of the median assessed value of homestead/farmsteads (i.e. primary residences) within the taxing district. In other words, this could have allowed a property tax reduction of approximately half the median property tax bill in the school district, county, or municipality.

Since then, this exclusion was not used for anything other than the
