Simmons Announces State Grant for Sewer System Improvements in Emmaus

Share

HARRISBURG – Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) today announced the awarding of a $260,000 state grant for a sewage system improvement project in Emmaus, Lehigh County. Simmons played a key role in securing the funding through the Department of Community and Economic Development’s small water and sewer grant program.

Specifically, the grant will be used by Emmaus Borough to repair 100 severely damaged manholes and correct an inflow problem that was discovered through inspections. The borough is working to comply with an administrative order from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to separate storm water from the sewage system, which flows to the Allentown Sewage Treatment Plant.

“Emmaus officials have worked extremely hard to complete this project. However, they have

REPUBLICAN PARTY: The Republican Party has internal rules that Party members (R-Committee) must support the Party’s nominees or else risk being thrown out of the Party.

CONGRESSMAN CHARLIE DENT: Republican Congressman Dent went on national TV and announced that he will not support the Republican nominee for President, Donald Trump. Trump won anyway.

CHARLIE DENT THE HYPOCRITE: One of Mr. Dent’s administrative assistants was elected Lehigh County Republican Party head. Her name is Jessica Bonatai. Once in office Ms Bonatai has been reportedly moving to remove Trump supporters from the Lehigh County Republican Committee. Looks like Charlie Dent saying– do as I say– not as I do! The Emmaus Council President, Brent Labenberg will be the guest speaker at CEPTA’s meeting, Tuesday, April 19th at 7:30 pm. The meeting is held at the Emmaus Fire Company #1, Sixth and Broad Streets, Emmaus. Mr. Labenberg has been requested to update the community on the Rodale purchase and Borough consolidation of operations at this site.

In early 2015 the Borough purchased the Rodale property, at Klines Lane, for $2.95 million. Last month the Borough reported that upgrades bring the total costs up to close to $5 million. This project is estimated to run ten years to completion. Borough Council announced that this project will not result in any tax increases.

Emmaus Council–Fiscal Fools?

2015 President Lee Ann Gilbert and Borough Manager Shane Pepe

In late 2014 into 2015 the Emmaus Borough Council made a dramatic decision to purchase the Rodale property at Klines Lane. The cost was reported to be $2,950,000 with additional expenses to bring the property up to Borough needs and standards. According to a report from the Borough Manager, estimated additional costs could run in excess of another $2,500,000 to $3,000,000.

Emmaus buys Rodale

The plan is to move all Borough operations to this site, including Administrative, Public Works, Police, Fire, and Ambulance. The first glaring question is–WAS THIS MOVE NEEDED? Second, WAS THIS MOVE COST EFFECTIVE? The plans also called for the selling of

Emmaus Borough Council personal appeal plea for help.

This plea was made by Mrs. Amy Huber, who lives very close to the intersection where an unfortunate accident occurred that took the life of a young child and seriously hurt another. The plea that was made was directly intended to get all motorists to be more cautious when driving and to have the motorist realize the laws when it comes to designated crosswalks on public streets.

Mrs. Huber was instrumental in starting a local organization called “Community and Caring Citizens of the Lehigh Valley.” Through this group

The Bait-and-Switch Behind Economic Populism

Share

The following article written by Nicolás Cachanosky is an excellent summary of the paper “Macroeconomic Populism” written by Rudiger Dornbusch and Sebastián Edwards. Not only do the four stages of populism identified by Dornbusch and Edwards apply at a national level, they also seem to apply on a local level.

These four stages can been seen in our local governments including Emmaus, Lower Macungie Twp., East Penn School District, and even Lehigh County. When fiscally responsible majorities have been in control, they have instituted policies that allowed these local levels of government to become financially sound with either no debt or extremely low amounts of debt while supplying the excellent services the public demands. By focusing on providing required services at cost competitive rates, funding
