Lower Macungie Township Commissioner Ron Beitler’s explanation of his Budget vote.

For those who might be interested in an explanation of my “no” vote. I found myself in the position of having to vote “No” on the yearly township budget again. Despite finding myself in this place now two years in a row, it is not a position I like, seek or expect to find myself in year after year.

However, as it is the biggest decision we make over the course of a year – and understanding one shouldn’t expect to ever be 100% satisfied when on a township governing body with the reality of “5 cooks in a kitchen” – I found myself in the familiar position of having serious issues with major components.

By Ron Beitler at RonBeitler.com

I’m probably nuts for writing about education cause it’s a hyper-partisan mine-field littered with special interests and an ingrained “team mentality”. As a township commissioner I have no influence on these conversations. I have no team and I’m not interested in joining one. I just want to step outside the echo chambers for a minute.

The following article written by Nicolás Cachanosky is an excellent summary of the paper “Macroeconomic Populism” written by Rudiger Dornbusch and Sebastián Edwards. Not only do the four stages of populism identified by Dornbusch and Edwards apply at a national level, they also seem to apply on a local level.

These four stages can been seen in our local governments including Emmaus, Lower Macungie Twp., East Penn School District, and even Lehigh County. When fiscally responsible majorities have been in control, they have instituted policies that allowed these local levels of government to become financially sound with either no debt or extremely low amounts of debt while supplying the excellent services the public demands. By focusing on providing required services at cost competitive rates, funding

Lehigh County Conservatives Score Some Big Wins in Primary Election

Share

Lehigh County conservatives scored some big wins in Tuesday’s primary election as many conservative favorites advanced to the general election.

Let’s begin by looking at the Lehigh County Commissioners race, moderate Republican Dean Browning was once again rejected by Republican voters at the polls. Many stated it was due to the 16% tax hike levied on county residents during his tenure as Chairman of the Lehigh County Commissioners. Additionally, some were turned off by what they viewed as a negative campaign run by Mr. Browning. They said Mr. Browning’s mailers appeared to distort the truth or in their opinion contained lies. Judging by the results of the election, it looks as if those tactics didn’t work for Mr. Browning to the
