Georgia state Rep. Paulette Rakestraw helped lead her state to be the first to join a formal interstate compact to push the federal government to balance the budget since she doesn’t believe the federal government will fix its own fiscal mess.

“The problem in Washington is the structure, you can replace everyone there and it’s not going to change,” Rakestraw, a Republican and immediate past chairwoman of the

The House and Senate Intelligence Committees are expanding their investigations into former National Security Adviser Susan Rice’s alleged “unmasking” of U.S. persons who were incidentally collected in surveillance of foreign officials.

An unnamed member of the House Intelligence Committee confirmed that Rice is now under “a full-blown investigation,” Fox News reported on Wednesday.

“We will be performing an accounting of all unmasking for political purposes focused on the previous White House administration. This is now a full-blown investigation,” the committee member said.

“We hear you and we have your back.”

That is the message Attorney General Jeff Sessions shared with Customs and Border Protection personnel in Nogales, Arizona, on the U.S. southern border Tuesday.

In a speech Tuesday, Sessions announced five changes to immigration prosecution and enforcement:

A crackdown on individuals who transport and harbor illegal immigrants. Sessions said, according to his prepared remarks, “We are going to shut down and jail those who have been profiting off this lawlessness—people smuggling gang members across the border,

The socialist leader of Venezuela announced in a speech to regime loyalists his plan to arm hundreds of thousands of supporters after a years-long campaign to confiscate civilian-owned guns.

The Bolivarian militias, created by Maduro’s predecessor Hugo Chavez, already number in the hundreds of thousands and are being used to supplement the regime’s armed forces.

The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation is blasting MIT Press for its new book Communism for Kids, arguing the book “whitewashes” a deadly ideology that has led to the deaths of 100 million people.

MIT Press recently published the book, written by German author Bini Adamczak, which uses cartoon drawings of “lovable little revolutionaries” arguing capitalism is evil and communism is “not that hard.”

In a letter sent to Amy Brand, the director of MIT Press, the Victims

The American Civil Liberties Union recently noted in a blog post that “the burden of confronting and remedying injustice falls on the shoulders of the oppressed.”

There is some truth to this: The oppressed are powerful voices in any battle for justice. But when it comes to defending the most vulnerable among us—our children—it is chiefly the responsibility of parents, teachers, school administrators, and lawmakers to defend their rights.

Corruption on Capitol Hill is “worse than you think,” Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., insists.

“When you first get here, you think that you are in some sort of fairy-tale novel,” Buck said. “They wine and dine you and they show you just exactly what it’s like if you play the game. It’s a wonderful life.”

Things quickly change, however, if “you don’t play the game.”
