ICYMI: Barletta USA Today Op-Ed on School Security

Share

We in Congress should protect students from gun violence as well as we protect ourselves

After the 2017 congressional baseball shooting, we instantly increased security to protect Congress. So why are we so slow when it comes to the safety of our students?

Rep. Lou Barletta 6/18/2018

As I go to work at the U.S. Capitol, I pass vehicle barricades, armed guards, metal detectors and police dogs. Yet, while my colleagues and I go to work every day without any fear of attacks, our teachers and students go to school hoping that nothing happens to them. It’s embarrassing and unacceptable.

If we as government officials can protect ourselves, we can do

Research considers impact of divorce on professional degree achievement

The children of divorced parents acquire fewer undergraduate and professional degrees, even after controlling for a variety of factors, according to a new study.

The study, recently published by the Journal of Family Studies, addresses the intersection of two increasingly important phenomena: high rates of divorce and the increasing need for today’s young people to acquire post-secondary and post-baccalaureate degrees.

Divorce is conspicuously prevalent in American culture. About 45 percent of marriages end in divorce in America; Scientific American estimated that 1.5 million children experience the divorce

NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio Wants Race to Determine Who Gets into Schools

Share

~ Liberty Planet

Elite New York City high schools such as Stuyvesant High School and the Bronx High School of Science currently accept students based on their test scores. However, that may change in the near future if New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has his way.

The mayor, irate at the fact that African-American and Hispanic students typically have a hard time getting into elite schools, wants to force these schools to take in minority students with lower scores simply because they are members of a minority ethnic group. In fact, de Blasio has gone so far as to call the test, which is administered to eighth grade students who choose to take it, an impediment to justice, progress and academic excellence

Reversing the Failures of our Educators

Share

by Joe David/Eagle Rising

Like so many students today, I too was groomed for a life of self-destruction. Everything negative from nihilism to anti-capitalism was poured into my head in school as though it were the Final Word on Existence. The knowledge I needed for a rational world view was cleverly hidden or removed from the curricula. Almost every day in school I faced a barrage of anti-intellectual propaganda, presented from a valueless perspective.

Today, practically everywhere, we are beginning to see the result of such “education.” America is being overtaken from within by a mob of uninformed and mindless graduates, totally lacking in critical thinking skills. In return for our generous support of education, we are being inundated with a bunch

Public Middle School Terrorized by MS-13 is a “Ticking Time Bomb”

Share

From Judicial Watch

A violent street gang energized by the steady flow of illegal immigrant minors is terrorizing a public middle school less than 10 miles from the nation’s capital while administrators cover up the problem and the feds ignore the crisis. Teachers are afraid, drugs are sold, gang graffiti litters the area surrounding the campus and gang-related fights are a daily occurrence, according to a lengthy mainstream newspaper report published this week. Most of the dozens of teachers, parents and students interviewed for the story refused to be identified for fear of losing their jobs or being targeted by the gangbangers that have taken over at William Wirt Middle School in Riverdale, Maryland. Wirt is part of the Prince

MS-13 gang members have created chaos at a Maryland Middle School a mere 10 miles from the White House.

A stunning expose in the Washington Post details that a handful of gang members at Wirt Middle School in the suburb of Riverdale have openly threatened students, teachers, sold drugs, and are initiating fights. Meanwhile, cowardly school administrators and negligent police officers seem content to ignore the root of the problem. (Hot Air) Read More

Many Factors Drive the Rise in Homeschooling

The long list includes mass shootings, sexual indoctrination, and poor academic performance.

By Louis DeBroux · at The Patriot Post/https://patriotpost.us/articles/56395?

In 2010, Patriot Post columnist Burt Prelutsky said of our underperforming public school systems, “It’s not a school system, it’s a penal colony with report cards.” At the time, it seemed humorously hyperbolic. Today, it seems depressingly understated.

Perhaps that’s why, as The Washington Times recently reported, there has been a surge in parents turning to homeschooling.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, from 1999-2012, the number of homeschooled children in the U.S. more than doubled from 850,000 to 1.8 million. That number has since risen to an estimated 2.3 million.

One thing is certain: In the wake of

Study: Catholic Schools Teach Self-Discipline

Students out-perform peers on measures of self-control, ‘acting out’

BY: / Washington Free Beacon

Catholic schools may better inculcate values of self-control in young children, a new study from the Thomas B. Fordham Institute suggests.

The study found that elementary-level Catholic-school students generally outperformed their peers when it came to self-control and acting out, indicating that Catholic schools’ emphasis on “teaching the whole child” may be useful in encouraging students to self-discipline.
