The Commonwealth Foundation’s Weekly Update

Dear CF Friend,

Allentown School District is in dire financial condition. Hundreds of teachers have been laid off in recent years. Despite this, the union president manages to pull a full-time teacher’s salary and benefits from the district payroll without teaching one minute in the classroom.

For years, Allentown taxpayers have funded salary and benefits for a “ghost teacher” who is on district payroll but actually works full-time for the local teachers’ union. Since 2000, the cost to taxpayers has been more than $1.3 million.

Last week, taxpayers Scott Armstrong and Steven Ramos filed a lawsuit with help from the Fairness Center to end this

THE WAR ON HOMEOWNERS CONTINUES! EAST PENN TO REFINANCE DEBT!

The issue of School Real Estate Property Tax Relief has been a hot issue for years and has been getting hotter! Many citizens have been organizing with taxpayer groups across the Commonwealth to pressure State politicians to do something meaningful. Act 76 is one issue that has reached the boiling point. Act 76 would have increased the State Income Tax slightly and the Sales Tax would have seen slight increase in exchange for the ELIMINATION OF SCHOOL PROPERTY TAXES!

Groups opposed to this are the Teacher’s Unions, School Administrators, and the Chamber of Commerce.

If Act 76 had passed, schools could still tax property to pay off debt. That is why school

After discovering what she considers over-the-top, sexually explicit material in her children’s high school reading assignments, a Northern Virginia mother is lobbying for greater transparency inside the classroom.

“This happened four years ago, when I first became aware of the books that were being taught in schools,” Laura Murphy, a mother of four in Fairfax, Va., told The Daily Signal. “As I read it, I was disturbed by some of the content.”

The content, Murphy said, was brought to her attention by her son, who at the

Review: John Bew, ‘Realpolitik: A History’

Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in 1975 / AP

BY: at the Washington Free Beacon

In 1973, Walter Laqueur wrote in Commentary that the influence of Henry Kissinger’s writings had led to a situation where no article on foreign policy seemed complete “without a quotation or two about the Metternichian system or Bismarck’s Real-politik.” Yet Kissinger said in 2009, “I regularly get accused of conducting realpolitik. I don’t think I have ever used that term. It is a way by which critics want to label me.”

Undercover Video Exposes Common Core

Share

by Phyllis Schlafly at Eagle Forum

January 27, 2016

A new set of undercover videos has been released by Project Veritas, the organization started by young journalist James O’Keefe who exposed ACORN in 2009 and NPR in 2011, resulting in the resignation of top officials at both organizations. The new videos reveal the mindset of the people who developed the Common Core education materials and the publishers who profit from it.

The expose comes just in time for the opening of this year’s Education Policy Conference in St. Louis, which is the essential event for parents, citizens and educators concerned about what our children are being taught (and not taught) in public schools. For 27 years, EPC
