“It’s like Christmas Day,” exclaimed Lily Eskelsen García, president of the National Education Association, the nation’s largest teachers union. García was referring to passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which was signed into law by President Barack Obama—who similarly referred to the new law as a “Christmas miracle”—earlier Thursday.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Senate passed the measure, which

Does the education bill fund Planned Parenthood?

Share

By Robert Romano at NetRight Daily and Americans for Limited Government

On Dec. 2, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved 359 to 64 the so-called “Every Student Succeeds Act,” a reauthorization and amendment of the “Elementary Secondary Education Act of 1965” providing federal funds to states and cities for public schools.

As we were analyzing the text of the conference report hours before the vote, Section 8035 was brought to Americans for Limited Government’s attention that it could open up a new funding stream for groups like Planned Parenthood.

At a time the House was voting to defund Planned Parenthood via the budget reconciliation process in light of despite explosive video showing organization employees talking about selling the body parts

Liberals Hate This Response To Black Lives Matter

Share

by Andrew McNealy – at Citizen Action

Looks like #BlackLivesMatter has some competition: white college students organizing on campus to make their voice heard, too.

In response to the race-related protests that have rocked schools nationwide, especially at places like Yale and the University of Missouri, white students at the University of California, Santa Barbara have formed a new “UCSB White Student Union” in order to show just how ridiculous segregating every issue by race is.

Millennials deserve better than college indoctrination

By Rick Manning at NetRight Daily and Americans for Limited Government

America has been experiencing a contrast in cultures that have been created by our institutions. On one hand, we witness some college students protesting over whether Thomas Jefferson’s statue has a place on the college campus that he attended.

On the other, the men and women of our armed forces continually demonstrate a toughness and valor that is unmatched anywhere in the world.

As college protesters complain about the need for safe spaces where they can be sheltered from the diversity of ideas that makes the world go round, our young men and women in the military put their lives in harm’s way to create safe spaces for people who otherwise

Citizens Alliance of Pennsylvania

As surely as night follows day, teachers’ unions insist every year that Pennsylvania needs to spend more money on education. One of the loudest voices for more money is the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers (PFT). The PFT has long resisted any changes to their contracts that would save money for taxpayers. Through one contract provision, teachers in the Philadelphia school district pay nothing toward their health insurance.

A Call to Action on SB76!

Share

Monday the 23rd of November saw the Pennsylvania Senate vote down SB76, the School Real Estate Tax Elimination Act. The negative vote was on the slimmest of margins at 24 nay and 24 yea, with Lt Governor Stack voting the deciding 25th nay vote.

We commend all 24 Senators who voted for 76. We question the Party Leadership in both political parties for their opposition. Polls throughout Pennsylvania show a huge majority of citizens wanted this legislation to pass. The opponents pointed to a supposed short fall in revenues for the 500 school districts if 76 passed. However, the latest IFO Report clearly shows that if all revenue sources are considered, then 76 is revenue neutral and may well create a huge

Not Much for Conservatives to Love in No Child Left Behind Rewrite

Share

Lindsey Burke / / from The Daily Signal

There isn’t much for conservatives to love in the policies put forward in the proposed rewrite of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act reauthorization currently moving through Congress.

Proponents of the No Child Left Behind rewrite have argued that the proposal would prohibit the education secretary from encouraging states to adopt Common Core and would otherwise rein in the Department of Education.

On the Common Core question, states have already adopted the national standards and tests, and it is now up to states to fully exit Common Core. Moreover, there were already prohibitions in three federal laws against the federal government being involved in curriculum-setting. It is unlikely that yet another
