Can School Board’s do Anything About Common Core?

Share

The short answer is a robust YES! This question gets centered on the East Penn School Board race. In the May Primary, conservative candidates Carol Allen and Chris Donatelli made a statement in their campaign literature that they wanted to oppose Common core and return to local control. The Teacher’s Union backed slate and their political operatives immediately jumped on this and continue to this day. The union operatives claim that Allen and Donatelli are naïve in that school board’s must follow the mandates of the state and federal governments. While it is true that Pennsylvania has adopted Common Core and renamed it Pennsylvania Core Standards, there are many ways to blunt the negative impacts of this program and its effects on our

State Representative Ryan Mackenzie endorses Carol Allen and Chris Donatelli for E.P. School Board

Share

To Whom It May Concern:

It is my pleasure to endorse Carol Allen and Chris Donatelli in the race for the East Penn School Board to be held on Primary Election Day – May 19, 2015.

Knowing both Carol and Chris, I can personally attest to the great knowledge and passion they would bring to the school board. They are also both very active involved in the community and have an understanding of the issues facing public education.

If elected, Carol and Chris would serve to strengthen education and protect taxpayers. We need people like them to stand up for families and our community on the East Penn School Board.

Please consider voting for Carol Allen and Chris Donatelli on Tuesday, May 19th!

Sincerely, Ryan

Another Tax Hike for the East Penn School District, Is it really ‘for the children’?

Share

Increased Taxes

The vote for the proposed 2015-2016 budget with a 3.8% tax hike was 8-1. Lynn Donches was the only vote opposed to the budget. Ms. Donches brought up the fact that 65% of the budget is for faculty and staff salaries and benefits. Industry averages 40%. How often do we hear the refrain that “it’s for the children”? To reduce the tax hike 10% cuts were made in school building budgets and to the central office, there will be less music for the music departments, less equipment for physics classes at the High School, author visits will be cut back, repairs put off, and book purchases cut as salaries and benefits grow.

It has been stated that we

East Penn School District Treasurer befuddled?

Share

At the EPSB meeting held on 5/11/2015 there was a personal appeal made to the East Penn School Board (EPSB) that provided some insight into how the EPSD may be miscalculating their floating rate interest on the EPSD debt service. Since the EPSB just voted 8 – 1 to increase school taxes by 3.78% for next year, with Ms. Lynn Donches being the only opposed, one hopes that the EPSB treasurer, Ms. Surdoval, will check into this and report back to the school board if this is indeed true. I think most taxpayers would appreciate the Treasurer taking a serious look into this possibility, it sure would be nice to lower the tax increase.

Ms. Donches is also the only board member who recommended that

EPIC Flop on guns in school for candidates present at EPIC debate

Yet another case of EPSD candidates misrepresenting the public.

During the EPIC sponsored EPSD candidates show, a question was asked on guns in the school.

It is important to note that only three of the seven candidates were present, Ken Bacher, Paul Champagne and Rich Mathesz and on most of the questions asked they spoke as one with nary a difference between them.

Three other candidates gave notice of scheduling conflicts, however all gave prepared statements that were read.

One, Reverend Wally Vinovskis, never showed up, never gave notice he wouldn’t show up and had no statements to inform the public of his views or positions. One can understand as he probably wanted to avoid questions on the recent teachers union contract as
