SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE, REALLY?

Share

Teachers and Staff from the Lebanon School District attended a workshop at the Lebanon Valley Mosque, according to stories by the Lebanon Daily News and Reading Eagle. According to those news reports the teachers and staff “learned about the practices of Islam”, “watched an afternoon Muslim prayer service and were treated to lunch of Moroccan cuisine.” Now this is not the first time for this in Lebanon County. There have been other reports of School District visits to area Mosques. All of these workshops and visits were conducted on THE TAXPAYER’S DIME! Justifying the visit (and taxpayer expense) was the Superintendent who claimed that the workshops were important due to a growing Muslim population! We have reports that Muslim Prayer Rooms have

Texas Watchdog spurs investigation into UT admissions scandal

Share

By Andrew Collins From Watchdog and the Franklin Center

The story of the University of Texas admissions scandal began nearly two years ago in a dire place. Wallace Hall, a Gov. Rick Perry appointee to the University of Texas Board of Regents, was about to be impeached for ethics violations, charges driven by University of Texas-Austin President Bill Powers.

Twenty months later, Bill Powers has resigned in disgrace and Wallace Hall is a hero in Texas. But what was the catalyst for change? It took great courage on Hall’s part to take a stand for integrity, but the story’s narrative did not change in his favor until Watchdog Texas bureau chief Jon Cassidy got involved.

When Cassidy started covering the

Education. Comparing PA to other states.

Share

By Ron Beitler at RonBeitler.com

I’m probably nuts for writing about education cause it’s a hyper-partisan mine-field littered with special interests and an ingrained “team mentality”. As a township commissioner I have no influence on these conversations. I have no team and I’m not interested in joining one. I just want to step outside the echo chambers for a minute.

But here goes nothing. I try hard to remain agnostic. Step away from the partisanship and just look at the big picture. To that end, you can somewhat do so since in our American education system we have 49 relatively independent systems to compare. I always go back to how are we doing vs. other states as a baseline.

Education Secretary’s Dangerous ”Public Boarding Schools” Agenda

By Alex Newman at The New American

Obama’s Education Secretary Arne Duncan is pushing a plan to create government boarding schools because, he claims, there are just certain children that government should “have” 24 hours a day, seven days a week. He also wants to turn all other schools into “community centers.” In reality, he wants more time to indoctrinate American children, as his own remarks make clear.

SCHOOL REAL ESTATE TAXES — DYING LADY TRIES TO SAVE HER HOME

Share

This video was produced last year. It is but one graphic example of what is wrong with this tax.

Tammy Keener of Sinking Spring, PA pays her school property taxes at Fulton bank in August in $1 dollar bills and has something to say about it.

By Anthony Orozco at Reading Eagle

Lugging three bags filled with thousands of $1 bills, a local woman made a statement against the school property tax Saturday afternoon.

Tammy Keener of Sinking Spring was accompanied by about 30 like-minded people when she paid her Wilson School District property tax in small bills at the Fulton Bank in West Lawn.”This is not a political thing, and this is not to make the bank teller’s day any harder,” Keener

East Penn School District $141 million Budget Vote, Unions win-children lose

Share

Can you figure out what the most important thing on the Superintendent’s and the majority of the board member’s mind is for next year’s school budget by looking at just one page of it? Click on the page for a better look.

This year’s budget has an increase $4,367,234 over last year’s total budget, a 3.2% increase. However, the “Salary & Benefits” Category has increase of $4,467,849 over last year’s budget, a 5.1% increase. That means the entire increase in this year’s budget, plus some is being spent on “Salary & Benefits”. The entire tax increase residents of East Penn will pay this year is going to fund increases in “Salary & Benefits”. Not supplies for children, not

Keystone Graduation Exams on Hold

Keystone Graduation Exams on Hold — from PA State Senator Dinniman

State Senator Andy Dinniman and his colleagues in the Pennsylvania Senate today unanimously approved legislation to delay the graduation requirement associated with the Keystone Exams for two years.

“After three years of hard work, I’m delighted to say that the Senate today passed Senate Bill 880 to delay the Keystone Graduation Exams for two years. The Keystones as graduation requirements are neither fiscally responsible nor educationally sound. This legislation will provide much-needed time to review the exams and come up with better means of assessment,” Dinniman said.

Under current law, high school students beginning with the class of 2017 (rising juniors) will have to pass Keystone Exams in three subject areas (Algebra I,

Legislators can help the homeowner. Will they?

Share

Many of you have heard about “Property Tax Elimination” or HB/SB 76. It has been batted around in PA legislature for over ten years now and soon it will be again up for a vote. In the original form it would have been a tax shift that would have totally eliminated school property tax by raising the sales tax from 6% to 7% and income taxes from 3.07% to 4.34%. This shift would allow the state to completely eliminate school property taxes forever. This bill would eliminate the potential loss of your home due to not being able to pay the taxes and it would free up all that tax money for the homeowner to buy more
