Contorted Common Core Polls

Share

From Eagle Forum/Education Reporter

It’s not surprising that teachers, parents, and citizens are confused about Common Core standards. Campaigns that offer biased claims or slanted information have been sponsored by the National Governors Association (NGA) and Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), the copyright owners of the Common Core standards, by Pearson Education, the Gates Foundation, and even Chambers of Commerce. Some of the biased information comes in the form of polls.

There’s an old saying that statistics can be manipulated to provide evidence for whatever side of an issue one wants to prove. Polls fall in the same category, offering statistics that are influenced by the way questions are asked.

A recent Education Next poll found that 49% of Americans support Common

Union case to Watch

Share

From Eagle Forum/Education Reporter

The Supreme Court will rule on Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association, a case brought by ten California teachers who are forced to pay union dues, which they say results in a violation of their right to free speech and to free association. The teachers want to decide for themselves whether to pay dues to the union, an organization that always supports Democrats and liberal policy positions.

Public school teachers in California who decline to join the union must still pay what is called an “agency fee” to the union. This fee is allegedly charged because teachers receive a benefit when the union negotiates contracts with schools. If specifically requested, a portion of the dues these non-union teachers pay is

Countdown: District Has 30 Days to Change Transgender Student Locker Room Policy or Lose Federal Funds

Should transgender students have full access to locker rooms? (Photo: Ed Sacckett/KRT/Newscom

Uncle Sam isn’t going to let schools place certain restrictions on how transgender students use a single-sex locker room.

A school district near Chicago, Palatine 211, provides numerous accommodations for transgender students. The district calls the students by requested names, honors selected gender (including allowing them to play on the sports teams of

Thank You Lynn Donches

Share

LVC staff

Monday, November 9, 2015 will be the last East Penn School Board meeting for Board Directors Lynn Donches, Samuel Rhoades, and Wally Vinovskis. We thank all for their service, but it is our opinion that special thanks goes to Lynn Donches.

Ms. Donches ran on a platform with a promise to the taxpayers for transparency and fiscal responsibility to provide a well-rounded education for the students. She upheld those promises through some very challenging meetings where she was chastised for her requests for more information on the bill list and various other requests for additional information so she could make an informed vote. None of the other Board members deemed her requests for information necessary. We commend Ms. Donches’ repeated efforts

Discriminating School Taxes Must End–support HB/SB 76

Share

by Rich Shuker

Homeownership has fallen to a 48 year low, the lowest it’s been since 1967. 1967 is an interesting date due to the fact that two years earlier school districts in the state of Pennsylvania were not allowed to directly tax the people. The Constitution says the House of Representatives is supposed to provide the funding for education

Because of the taxing authority by the school districts the school tax has become a regressive and discriminatory tax, targeting the low, middle income class and the retirees.

Since 2011 school taxes have gone up 116%, despite the casino tax scam that was to provide tax relief money, but the casinos made out better than the homeowners. Maybe that’s why Gov. Rendell stated,

Schools Ordered to Help Illegal Aliens, Hold “Undocumented Immigrant Awareness Day”

Share

OCTOBER 21, 2015 From Judicial Watch

The Obama administration is ordering the nation’s public schools to support illegal immigrant students, promote the president’s amnesty and “embrace and value” the diversity and cultural backgrounds of the foreigners receiving a free, American taxpayer-funded education.

In a 63-page “Guide for Success” issued this month, the U.S. Department of Education directs teachers in the nation’s publicly funded schools to “understand the cultural and educational backgrounds” of their students and to “model multicultural sensitivity.” Teachers should also “engage in self-reflection to address personal biases and increase multicultural competence,” according to the new mandate that also orders the incorporation of diversity and immigration into instruction. “Plan and host trainings on multicultural issues that educate teachers

Jane Fretz Strikes Again

Share

We find it ironic that once again former East Penn School Director Jane Fretz promotes her Teacher’s Union slate of School Board candidates as being pro-education and the election opponents as anti-education. She has done this in many East Penn School Board Elections since 1990.

The latest example of Jane Fretz political propaganda appeared on Lehigh Valley Live on September 29th and once again in the East Penn Press. To quote the latest from Jane Fretz; “I am concerned about the East Penn School Board election this year as it pertains to the Chris Donatelli/Carol Allen slate. They are being promoted by people with a political agenda who want to undermine the success and excellence of the East Penn school system.”Jane does not
