Trey Kovacs: Pa. workers deserve freedom from forced union representation

Share

| Trib Total Media,

Pennsylvania public employees are now free to decide how best to spend their hard-earned paychecks. In June, the U.S. Supreme Court in Janus v. AFSCME held that forcing public workers to pay union fees as a condition of employment goes against First Amendment free speech rights. The majority opinion found that government unions are inherently political and “forcing free and independent individuals to endorse ideas they find objectionable is always demeaning.”

The revelation that Mel Watt, a powerful financial regulator, has been accused of sexual harassment by an employee left Capitol Hill Democrats scrambling for a response, a stark contrast to their reaction to other cases of alleged misdeeds.

“There’s a lot of people talking in the committee about what’s our role in all of this,” said Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), a Banking Committee member.

Heitkamp — like every other lawmaker queried — would not comment on the matter directly, saying she needed more information on the allegations.

(CNSNews.com) — Communism wanted to disrupt the social order, particularly when it comes to property, which is the opposite of the goal of conservatism, author and professor Paul Kengor said Wednesday at the Young America’s Foundation’s National Conservative Student Conference in Washington, D.C.

In his presentation, “A Politically Incorrect Guide to Communism and Socialism,” Kengor aimed to give the students attending the conference the education they will not get at their liberal universities, specifically in economics classes.
