Qualcomm Lays Off 4,500 Workers While Demanding More H-1b Visas

by Rachel Stoltzfoos at the Daily Caller

Another tech giant that says it must import foreign workers because there aren’t enough skilled American workers in the industry is laying off thousands of workers.

Qualcomm — a major producer of smartphone chips — announced last week it’s eliminating 15 percent of its workforce or about 4,500 employees, just weeks after fellow tech giant Microsoft announced a massive round of layoffs.

Both companies are top beneficiaries of the H-1b visa program, which backers say allows companies to temporarily hire foreign workers for jobs they can’t find qualified Americans workers to fill. Critics contend the program is really used to cut costs. (RELATED: Displaced American Workers Sue DHS Over New Visa Rule)

People who collect Social Security benefits and have a bad memory may lose their benefits, according to a FOX News posting.

About 4.2 million adults receive monthly benefits that are managed by “representative payees,” or third parties, notes the FOX News report. Under the proposal floated by “president” Barack Hussein Obama, people who are simply forgetful—say, their monthly disability payments are handled by a third party—would lose their Social Security benefits if they own a gun. The latest gun grab, which could potentially affect millions of people, is intended to bring the Social Security Administration in line with laws that prevent gun sales to felons, drug addicts, immigrants in the United States illegally, and others, FOX News

Can the Government Ban Anything?

by Laurence M. Vance at

Even though it is true that the government currently bans all kinds of things, I am asking a serious question. Let me expand and clarify it. Is the federal government authorized by the Constitution to make illegal the possession of any substance that it deems it to be harmful, hazardous, immoral, addictive, threatening, damaging, injurious, destructive, unsafe, or dangerous to an individual or to society?

I am not talking about state governments—that is a separate issue. I am talking about the U.S. national government that was set up by the Constitution in 1789. The Constitution that was amended in 1791, 1795, 1804, 1865, 1868, 1870, 1913, 1919, 1920, 1933, 1951, 1961, 1964, 1967, 1971, & 1992.

Follow up: Wisconsin Supreme Court shuts down John Doe investigation, affirms First Amendment

by Eric Boehm at

The Supreme Court of Wisconsin killed John Doe.

In a ruling issued Thursday morning, the high court ordered an end to a Milwaukee prosecutor’s politically motivated investigation into conservative groups that dragged on for more than three years.

Writing for the majority, Justice Michael Gableman slammed a special prosecutor’s handling of the investigation and praised the unnamed plaintiffs for pushing back against a violation of their First Amendment rights to political speech.

“It is utterly clear that the special prosecutor has employed theories of law that do not exist in order to investigate citizens who were wholly innocent of any wrongdoing,” Gableman wrote in the majority opinion. “To be clear, this conclusion ends the John

‘Doping the vote’ in South Texas triggers federal indictments

WHAT DO YOU KNOW? Texas Republicans say state Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa needs to “come clean” about voting irregularities in the Rio Grande Valley.

By Kenric Ward from

Shady ballot brokers are “doping the vote” in the Rio Grande Valley, an election-watch group says. Now the FBI is on the case.

“(The politiqueras) took voters to their weed man after voting,” Logan Churchwell, a spokesman for True the Vote, told

Trafficking in petty cash and dime bags, politiqueras round up voters for South Texas candidates, nearly all Democrats. The pay-for-ballot activity has resulted in 11 federal indictments so far.

Republicans are turning up the heat on state Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa, a Brownsville resident and

Alexis de Tocqueville Predicted the Tyranny of the Majority in Our Modern World

Alexis de Tocqueville foresaw many of our current problems.

We often boast about having attained some unimaginable redefinition of ourselves and our nation. How odd, then, that someone born 210 years ago today could understand us with more clarity and depth than we understand ourselves.

Back in 1831, Alexis de Tocqueville accurately foresaw both much of what ails us and our remarkable uniqueness and strengths. Tocqueville’s deservedly famous book, “Democracy in America,” was the product of his nine-month excursion throughout Jacksonian America. The purpose of this trip was to study our country’s political institution and the habits of mind of its citizens.

America’s Place in the World

Tocqueville correctly thought the then-developing America was the

Rolling Stone Fake Rape Story Causes Major Shakeup

by Jeffrey Sea at Citizen Action

The managing editor of Rolling Stone–who presided over the publication when they released their now-retracted, patently false University of Virginia gang rape story–has finally resigned.

Will Dana will leave the magazine after nearly two decades. His last day will be in August and, at this point, he has no future job lined up–suggesting that his resignation was forced.

Dana’s resignation comes as three University of Virginia graduates filed a lawsuit against Rolling Stone.

George Elias IV, Stephen Hadford, and Ross Fowler filed a suit against Rolling Stone and Rolling Stone’s publisher, Wenner Media. Their lawyer claims that they suffered “vicious and hurtful attacks” after the fake story was published in November 2014.

The story, written by Sabrina Rubin

A California Judge Needs a Lesson in the First Amendment

A California court’s temporary restraining order against the group behind undercover Planned Parenthood videos potentially violates fundamental First Amendment precedents that bar prior restraints on speech.

by Hans von Spakovsky and Elizabeth Slattery from the Daily Signal

Late Wednesday, the Los Angeles Superior Court issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) banning the Center for Medical Progress from releasing video of a meeting with three StemExpress employees at a restaurant last May, potentially violating fundamental First Amendment precedents that bar prior restraints on speech.

The Center for Medical Progress (CMP), a group of “citizen journalists dedicated to monitoring and reporting on medical ethics and advances,” has released four undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s program of selling aborted babies’ body parts—and they promise that more
