Obama’s Overtime Rule Tried at IBM, and It Didn’t Work

By James Sherk / /at The Daily Signal

The Labor Department says this regulation will help workers. It is much more likely to make balancing work and family even more difficult. (Photo: Aude Guerrucci/dpa/picture-alliance/Newscom)

As a research fellow in labor economics at The Heritage Foundation, James Sherk researches ways to promote competition and mobility in the workforce rather than erect barriers that prevent workers from getting ahead.

Juggling work and family life is hard. On Wednesday the Labor Department made it even harder for millions of salaried workers. The administration’s new overtime regulations will effectively turn them into hourly employees.

The regulation won’t increase their earnings, but it will greatly reduce their control over their schedules. The Fair

Pennsylvania Liberty Alliance VP Addresses CEPTA on Political Ways to Pass School Real Estate Tax Elimination!

Ron Boltz, the Vice-President of the Pennsylvania Liberty Alliance and former Pine Grove School Board member addressed the Concerned East Penn Taxpayers Association on Tuesday, May 17th. Mr. Boltz’s group has been leading the charge to see a re-vote on SB76 the School Real Estate Tax Elimination Act. Last November, the PA Senate voted 24 to 24 on this Act with Lt. Governor Stack casting the tie breaking no vote. The PLA has been hard at work at getting a second vote on that issue.

Here is the video of Ron Boltz presentation:

How Maine’s Time Limit on Welfare Pushed One Woman to Pull Herself Out of Poverty

By Melissa Quinn / at The Daily Signal

Jill Rothrock knows the moment she hit rock bottom.

It was 2007, and Rothrock went into the pharmacy in Bucksport, Maine, to pick up a prescription for Vicodin that she had called in herself. Her two daughters were in the car, and after she had picked up the pills, Rothrock got back into a car she was renting and began to drive away.

But agents with the Drug

Why Obamacare Customers in Some States Might See Higher Rates in 2017

By Melissa Quinn / /at The Daily Signal

As competition among insurers selling coverage on Obamacare’s exchanges declines in areas of the country, some consumers could be faced with higher premiums. (Photo: Anthony Behar/Sipa USA/Newscom)

Melissa Quinn is a senior news reporter for The Daily Signal.

As insurance companies begin submitting their rates for health care coverage next year, consumers are seeing changes in the number of insurers selling plans on Obamacare’s exchanges.

And in some places, fewer choices on the exchanges can mean higher premiums.

So far, three states—Alabama, Alaska, and Wyoming—have just one insurer selling coverage on their Obamacare exchanges. And in Kansas, Insurance Commissioner Ken Selzer has been talking with carriers to convince them

Chicago Teachers Union proposal ‘treats taxpayers like ATMs’

By at

The Chicago Teachers Union recently released its plan to save Chicago Public Schools — almost $500 million in tax hikes on top of an already-approved largest property-tax increase in the city’s history.

Revenue solves funding problems,” CTU president Karen Lewis declared in a press release.

Not considered as a solution by the teachers union were cost-cutting measures, reforms regarding spending and pensions, or attempts to direct more funding to classrooms.

But there are plenty of taxes.

The “Blame Game” over property taxes continues.

Ron Boltz of PA Liberty Alliance

LVC Note: Ron Boltz is the VP of Pennsylvania Liberty Alliance and was a Pine Grove School Board member.

On Monday May 16th I went to Harrisburg to join a group called Indiana County against Unfair Assessments as they traveled over three hours to voice their concerns about property taxes. Their recent court-ordered countywide reassessment has caused them many hardships and problems, and they are looking for solutions. Unfortunately for all of us, the property tax system cannot be “fixed”. Many legislators say that frequent countywide reassessments are the answer. I’m sure these folks disagree.

Neither I nor PLA had anything to do with arranging this event. They did invite people from all areas to

Soros, Top Clinton lawyer Lose Lawsuit Against Virginia’s Voter ID Law

Millions have gone into the effort to attack voter identification laws in numerous states

BY: at the Washington Free Beacon

Hillary Clinton’s top campaign lawyer lost a challenge against Virginia’s voter identification laws that was fueled by money from liberal billionaire George Soros.

The lawsuit, filed early last year on behalf of the Democratic Party of Virginia, sought to end Virginia’s voter identification law, known as SB 1256. The lawsuit was dismissed by a federal court Thursday after a lengthy trial that saw numerous witnesses testify, dealing a blow to an organized effort by the left to take on voter

Our Constitutional Right to Privacy Is Missing From Bathroom Debate

By Matt Sharp at The Daily Signal

By protecting privacy for everyone, we protect privacy for the most vulnerable among us. (Photo: Rafael Ben-Ari/Chameleons Eye/Newscom)

Matt Sharp is legal counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom and represents students and parents in two federal lawsuits against the Obama administration for exceeding its authority in pushing school districts to open bathrooms to the opposite sex.

It should be common sense that every person is entitled to privacy when using the restroom, changing, or showering, but unfortunately, some have eliminated common sense from the discussion.

What else can explain the decision by dozens of school districts across the country, retailing giant Target, and even the U.S. Departments of Education and Justice to voluntarily adopt
