Stimulus Spending Actually Slows Economic Growth, the Evidence Shows

Nations that adopt the right kind of austerity get better results.

By Daniel J. Mitchell

I wrote in 2010 that Keynesian economics is like the Freddy Krueger movies. It refuses to die despite powerful evidence that you don’t help an economy by increasing the burden of government. In 2014, I wrote that the theory was based on “fairy dust.” And in 2015, I said Keynesianism was akin to a perpetual motion machine.

What’s my proof? Well, during the period when Obama’s “stimulus” was in effect, unemployment got worse, and the best growth period under Obama was after the sequester, which Obama and others said was going to hurt the economy.

F. A. Harper: The Greatest Threat to Liberty Is the Idea that Democracy Guarantees Freedom

As Americans seem to be ever appreciative of democracy, it’s time to remind them of the impediments on liberty that democracy can bring.

By Gary M. Galles

Americans have concluded their dates with their polling places, and “get out the vote” campaigns have morphed into “what will the results mean?” discussions. The Math: It’s Almost Certain That Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis Have Won in Florida

By Guy Benson at Townhall

Amid the violations of law by Broward and Palm Beach County elections officials, the data provides apparent good news for Republicans. First, despite the national media’s typical laziness and derelictions, the local press has largely been assiduous and conscientious — certain framing aside. Second, core concerns raised by leading Republicans (some of which were rhetorically overblown) have been validated by multiple judges. The ineptitude and misconduct has not gone unnoticed. Third, in spite of Democratic lawyers’ best efforts, Republican leads in key races are likely insurmountable. National Review’s Charles C.W. Cooke

( – Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) is expected to chair the House Judiciary Committee in the next Congress. On Sunday, he said protecting the Mueller investigation is his top “oversight” priority; and gun control is one of his top legislative priorities:

“Well, we will certainly pursue sensible gun control legislation as one of our priorities,” Nadler told ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos.

He said he recently campaigned with Democrat Representative-Elect Lucy McBath, who won her Georgia seat by campaigning for gun control.
