Lawsuit seeks records on audits of individuals and groups based on Tea Party applications for exempt status

Judicial Watch announced it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) seeking “any and all records” related to the selection of both individuals and organizations for audits based upon applications filed requesting nonprofit tax status. The lawsuit was filed in the District Court for the District of Columbia on (Judicial Watch v. Internal Revenue Service (No. 1:15-cv-00220)).

In May 2013, the Treasury Inspector for Tax Administration (TIGTA) released an audit report confirming that the IRS used “inappropriate” criteria to identify Tea Party groups and other conservative organizations that had expressed opposition

“Holy Matrimony, Batman!”

The vilifying of Christians by some militant LGBT activists is one of the most misdirected assaults of our time. Here we have two groups that have a true common enemy but instead of identifying that common enemy they have been cast into opposing roles in a misdirected screenplay that should see them as unified allies. Who exactly is the villain and how on earth can Christians be allied with the LGBT community?

I thought about putting these next few sentences at the end of this article for fear that I may lose some readers right here, but I decided that if you have already read this far you are probably willing to read the rest with an open mind. So before I

IRS Documents Reveal Lerner Knew Targeting Criteria of Nonprofit Groups ‘Might Raise Questions’

Share

by Judicial Watch

Judicial Watch today released a new batch of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) documents, including an email from former IRS official Lois Lerner in February 2012 asking that a program be set up to “put together some training points to help them [IRS staffers] understand the potential pitfalls” of revealing too much information to Congress. The documents also contain a Lerner email from 2013 in which she says she is willing to take the blame on some aspects of the scandal. She also indicates that she “understands why the IRS criteria” leading to the targeting of Tea Party and other opponents of the President Obama “might raise questions.”

The documents were released under court order in one

Push-button political warfare in Indiana

Share

by Don Todd at Net Right Daily and Americans for Limited Government

The news has become a melodrama reminiscent of the Dudley Do Right cartoons of the 1960s. The innocent Nell vs. the evil Snidely Whiplash bears a striking resemblance to the “victimized” communities in Indiana vs. Christian bigots. These stories and many others bear another resemblance to the 1960s cartoon: they are all total fiction.

The most recent of these fictions is the Christian bigot story that dominated the “news” for a week resulting from Indiana passing a Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). The Act is modeled after the federal legislation which was written to prohibit the government from substantially burdening religious liberties unless it is doing so “in furtherance

Baltimore police use secret technology to track cellphones with FBI involvement

Share

by Brad Matthews | Watchdog Arena

Baltimore police have been using an invasive device known as a “stingray” to track cellphones thousands of times in recent years. They have collected and withheld this information from courts at the behest of the FBI, according to the Baltimore Sun.

The stingray device mimics a cellphone tower, tricking devices into connecting with it. These forced connections allow the operators of the stingray to obtain information unique to the cellphone for tracking purposes.

The police, who try to keep the device under wraps, officially use it to track stolen phones or to find people. The devices can also be

Yet another area of unjustified government takeover: the Internet

Share

by PATRICK GARRY, RA ANALYST with Renew America

An article I wrote twenty years ago described the Internet as America’s next frontier. And for the past twenty years, it has been a wide-open, innovative, constantly changing – and yes, somewhat unruly – frontier. But all that may have changed with the Federal Communication Commission’s recent announcement that it will now treat the Internet as a public utility, regulated under the same laws that once governed the Ma Bell telephone monopoly.

This dramatic change in the government’s regulatory oversight of the Internet is the most extreme expression of the “net neutrality” movement. In basic principle, net neutrality is a concept that commands near universal agreement. Net neutrality refers to an open Internet, free of discrimination

Part 6 of 6 in the series A License to Speak: The Dark Money Deception

by Jon Cassidy, Watchdog.org

AP Photo/Tribune Review, Sidney Davis

SPEECH AND MONEY: There is “only one legitimate governmental interest for restricting campaign finances,” Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas wrote, and that is “preventing corruption or the appearance of corruption.”

Campaign finance regulation has always been a threat to free speech. Dark money regulation is a different kind of danger.

For the zealots, ridding the world of dark money means sunlight and transparency, a block on billionaires buying elections in secret and hijacking our democratic system of government.

But if the dark money regulators are successful their victory will mean robust public debate only for those who
