Top Democrat on Bakers Fined $135K Over Wedding Cake: ‘You Shouldn’t Be Able to Turn People Away’

News: In an interview with The Daily Signal, Democrat National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz argues that religious liberty protections should apply to only churches and religious organizations, not private businesses.

by David Brody from the Daily Signal

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said the marriage debate is over.

“The marriage equality decision is settled. Love is love and now everyone in America enjoys the protection of the United States Constitution when it comes to who they choose to marry legally,” Wasserman Schultz told The Daily Signal.

She also weighed in on the religious liberty debate. “That doesn’t mean that churches and religious institutions have to conduct same-sex marriages and it doesn’t mean that religious institutions aren’t able to practice their own values. But,

GOP Lawmakers Push Obama Administration to Get Tough on Sanctuary Cities After San Francisco Killing

“Sanctuary city policies coupled with the Obama administration’s lack of immigration enforcement have created a public safety crisis,” said one top House Republican to The Daily Signal.

by Ken McIntyre from the Daily Signal

Republican lawmakers in the House and Senate are pressing the Obama administration to get tough with San Francisco and other jurisdictions that don’t cooperate on immigration enforcement, after the fatal shooting of a woman on a popular stretch of the California city’s waterfront.

The man accused of the July 1 killing is an illegal immigrant and convicted felon from Mexico who had been deported five or more times.

In a scathing letter, nine Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday told the nation’s top

Mickey Mouse games with Hillary’s speed bumps; the Iranians; and ineligible voters by Wes Vernon From Renew America Hillary Clinton, the “all-but-inevitable” Democrat nominee for President in 2016, has finally “clarified” what she means when she declares that “Republicans are systematically and deliberately trying to stop millions of Americans from voting.”

(Huh? Well, sure. Latin Americans by definition are “Americans” aren’t they? They just lack U.S. citizenship. “What difference at this point does it make?” So shouldn’t they have the same right as you to vote in any of the U.S. states? Got a problem with that, bigot! It’s sort of like figuring the meaning of is. Translated into Hillaryspeak: “We may not win a fair election, so haul out the strong-arm ‘voting

by Hans von Spakovsky and Rachel Landsman From the Daily Signal

Obama’s Department of Justice may have been involved in the IRS scheme to target conservative non-profit organizations, according to newly-released documents obtained by Judicial Watch under the Freedom of Information Act.

The documents reveal that Lois Lerner met with attorneys from the Public Integrity Section (including its chief) of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division and a representative from the FBI in 2010 to discuss using campaign-finance laws to bring criminal charges

23 things Congress could defund in Interior and Environment

by Robert Romano at NetRight Daily and Americans for Limited Government

This week, the House of Representatives is taking up the appropriations bill for the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies. This is an opportunity for Congress to exercise its constitutional power of the purse through policy riders that can help limit the size and scope of government.

To that end, Americans for Limited Government suggests the following areas where House members might look to offer amendments to curb what has been a department run amok.

Defunding the EPA Carbon Endangerment Finding. In 2009, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued the carbon endangerment finding that held carbon dioxide to be a harmful pollutant under the terms of the Clean Air Act.

EPSD Suicide policy alert, like Common Core more data mining?

The big discussion at July’s East Penn School Board meeting was the new “Suicide policy” (Editors Comments Included). The board will be voting on the policy at the next meeting, Monday, August 10. It was noted that this policy must be enacted before the next school year starts on August 31, 2015. Luckily one board member, Lynn Donches, asked if the parents would be notified of any intervention and/or assessments.

The board president gave a perfect description of the pitfalls of this policy in its present state. Their major concerns surround the necessity to collect data on the student and the questions on family medical and psychological histories. This is very similar to the Common Core/Pa Core Standards data

Greece Disaster Shows Unavoidable Consequences of Socialism

by Stephen Moore From the Daily Signal

The Heritage Foundation’s Steve Moore writes that “Greece needs much less socialism, and much more privatization.”

The Greek citizens have rolled the dice and voted overwhelmingly to reject the “austerity” referendum. This was a way for voters to stick a finger in the eye of their creditors. The left around the world has responded to the vote with thunderous applause—and is selling the results as a vote for “the little guy.”

The Greeks believed that voting against the debt restructuring plan would give them more leverage with the banks, the IMF and the EU. But what happens now in Greece? The banks are shutting down this week. Withdrawals from bank accounts are being tightly restricted.

Greece is formally

Sorry, Liberals: Oregon Did Put a ‘Gag Order’ on Those Christian Bakers

by-Hans von Spakovsky From the Daily Signal

Commentary: Liberals are claiming The Daily Signal misreported how Christian bakers Aaron and Melissa Klein were silenced by the government after they refused to bake a cake for a lesbian wedding. Here are the facts.

On Thursday, The Daily Signal published an article about Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) Commissioner Brad Avakian ordering Aaron and Melissa Klein, Christian bakers who had refused to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple, to pay the couple $135,000 for “emotional” damages and issuing a gag order against the Kleins.

On Monday, Slate published an article criticizing The Daily Signal’s coverage headlined “No, Oregon Did Not ‘Gag’ That Anti-Gay Bakery.”

While that’s a great, provocative
