Dead People Received $1.5 Million in Benefits Through Medicare Program

The Washington Free Beacon Medicare paid 1,047 claims for services performed after the individual’s date of death

Ali Meyer is a staff writer with the Washington Free Beacon covering economic issues that expose government waste, fraud, and abuse.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services improperly paid $1.5 million in benefits to dead people from 2013 to 2015, according to an audit from the agency’s inspector general.

“Because medically necessary services cannot be provided after a Medicare beneficiary dies, payments for claims with dates of service after the individual’s death are generally considered improper payments,” the audit states.

While the agency’s policies and procedures were generally

Much of President Barack Obama’s executive action legacy will be decided by the courts after he leaves office, but he had a rough judicial record while serving.

Though Obama has frequently touted his pen and phone policymaking, these actions on immigration, environmental policy, and presidential appointees have often been swatted away by the Supreme Court.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, issued a July 2014 Continue reading…

The North Korea Opportunity

Aaron MacLean is the managing editor of the Washington Free Beacon.

The nuclear-armed slave state North Korea poses an enormous challenge to American policy in East Asia—but also offers an opportunity to deter a greater threat in the region: Xi Jinping’s increasingly belligerent Communist China.

There’s no disputing the fact that the world would be a better place without the Kim family’s murderous regime. The

Weekly Update–From the Commonwealth Foundation

Monday, October 17, 2016

Dear CF Friend,

Today kicks off the last two weeks of legislative session this year. Here’s what you need to know about some key issues we’re watching.

Pension reform. The House and Senate may soon come to a pension agreement, combining the House’s stacked hybrid plan with the Senate’s side-by-side hybrid. Check out Elizabeth Stelle’s latest blog recapping the road to pension reform.

Vape shops saved? The House could vote this week to repeal and replace the 40% retroactive tax on vape shop owners, meaning the Senate could pass this bill and send it to Gov. Wolf as early as next week. This tax has already forced dozens of shops across Pennsylvania out of business.

This Is Not Why Voters Put the GOP in Control of Congress

By Genevieve Wood / /at The Daily Signal

Genevieve Wood advances policy priorities of The Heritage Foundation as senior contributor to The Daily Signal.

In review, by the LVC Editorial Staff, this video shows what the GOP bi-partisan accomplishments were in 2015. Recall the definition of bi-partisanship: “In America, we have a two-party system. There is the stupid party, and there is the evil party. Periodically, the two parties get together and do something that is both stupid and evil. This is called bipartisanship.” LVC Staff
