How much of your income goes to School Property Taxes?

Hello Taxpayers,

Just how much do you pay for School Real Estate Taxes as a percent of your income? How does that stack up to the rest of Pennsylvania?

The buzz is starting on Facebook already. It really opens ones eyes to see what their county average is versus how much they pay. It is also very telling that some counties, though taking more dollars pay far less per capita than other counties. Shows the average per capita state earning shows the average School property Tax shows the % of the per capita that the tax burdens the earner Creating a little buzz on Facebook already after 1 hour

Senate Budget Charts an Unsustainable Course with Budget

From the Citizens Alliance of Pennsylvania-CAP

On Monday, December 7th, the Pennsylvania Senate passed two significant pieces of legislation. The first was a budget that grew spending at 6 percent, well over the rate of inflation plus population growth. The fact that there is no way to pay for this spending increase without a tax hike is equally concerning. This budget made no attempt to “trim the fat”. Instead, the budget increased expenditures on some very questionable line items.

A Brief History of Wolf’s Tax Hikes

by NATHAN BENEFIELD at the Commonwealth Foundation

Yesterday, the State House of Representatives announced they were moving off the latest Wolf tax hike proposal and onto a new plan that called for less spending and fewer new taxes. Moving away from broad-based tax hikes—for which there is little support—is the right move for Pennsylvania families.

Here’s some background.

Tax Hike Proposal #1

In his budget address, Gov. Tom Wolf proposed a massive $4.6 billion tax hike, with a net increase of about $1,400 per family of four. Every income group would have paid higher taxes under Wolf’s plan.

This proposal was never introduced in the

How Michigan’s Welfare Population Declined by 70% in 4 Years

By Sara Jones /at The Daily Signal

Since Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder assumed office, the number of welfare recipients in the state has declined by a staggering 70 percent, according to a news report.

A total of 64,492 individuals received cash assistance from the state this past August, down from 227,490 in 2011. Snyder, a Republican, took office in January 2011 and was re-elected in November 2014.

Michigan Capitol Confidential, a news site, reported that the decline in welfare recipients could be due to new enforcement of limits on cash benefits. The state has begun enforcing a 48-month lifetime limit for its cash assistance program and a 60-month federal time limit.

The Good Ol’ Days: When Tax Rates Were 90 Percent

By at Mises Daily

It’s quite interesting indeed when both progressives and conservatives seem to be nostalgic for those good ol’ days in the 1950s, for different reasons, of course. Conservatives want to go back to the nuclear Leave It to Beaver family and what not while liberals like to talk about those 90-percent tax rates that we owe our prosperity to. Or something like that. We’ll focus on the latter for the time being.

Bernie Sanders noted that “When radical, socialist Dwight D. Eisenhower was president, I think the highest marginal tax rate was something like 90 percent.” Paul Krugman said the same thing as did Michael Moore in his film Continue reading…

Defining Liberals’ Excuses Pertaining to SB76

By Rich Shuker

One of the statements made during the Senate debate on SB 76 was,” this is not a perfect bill.” This is true but, it’s 10,000 times better than what we now have; but before explaining some of the liberal fallacy let’s look at what Harrisburg feels is a perfect bill.

We need to go back to 2001 and look at what caused the pension crisis. This Bill must’ve been a perfect Bill, just look at the votes. How did this bill help the majority of Pennsylvania residents? Obviously it did the direct opposite, but according to the number of votes, this was a perfect Bill. So far, this Bill has cost the taxpayers over $50 billion.

How is this legal?

Citizens Alliance of Pennsylvania

As surely as night follows day, teachers’ unions insist every year that Pennsylvania needs to spend more money on education. One of the loudest voices for more money is the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers (PFT). The PFT has long resisted any changes to their contracts that would save money for taxpayers. Through one contract provision, teachers in the Philadelphia school district pay nothing toward their health insurance.

Update on SB76

Senator Scott Wagner

November 25, 2015 From State Senator Scott Wagner

This post is to give you an update on the progress of school tax elimination on real estate in Pennsylvania (Senate Bill 76).

After much debate and discussion on Monday in the Senate caucus, Senator Dave Argall later on the Senate floor offered an amendment to House Bill 683 that contained language that was similar to the language in Senate Bill 76.

The amendment was voted on by the full Senate – the vote was 24 – yes votes ( 18 Republicans – 6 Democrats ) and 24 – no votes ( 12 Republicans – 12 Democrats) – Lt. Governor Stack cast the tie breaking vote of no – so the
