LIHEAP Program Now Open, Says Simmons

HARRISBURG – The state’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is now accepting applications for home heating assistance grants, Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) said today.

LIHEAP is a federally funded program that helps individuals and families pay their heating bills through home heating energy assistance grants. It also provides crisis grants to help in the event of an emergency or if a resident is in danger of losing their heat due to broken equipment, lack of fuel or termination of utility service.

The income eligibility guidelines for LIHEAP are set at 150 percent of the federal poverty level income. For example,

We are Sorry to Report the passing of Charles Rhoads

Share

On Thursday November 9th, Charles Rhoads passed away after a long illness. Charles, Charlie to many of us at The Commentator, was a likable and important member of the Lehigh Valley Commentator.

Charlie was one of the Commentator’s original “Incorporators”, a major stock holder, and member of the Board of Directors. His knowledge of printing and publications was a valuable asset to the Commentator Board of Directors. Charlie also served as the Commentator’s Advertising Manager until health issues caused his retirement.

Always upbeat with a laugh and smile, Charlie will be missed by all!

Born in Philadelphia on October 7, 1946. Charlie was a lifelong member of the Germantown Monthly Meeting (Religious Society of Friends). He had a BA in Business,

Letter writer calls out Schumer for his Diversity Visa Lottery Program

Share

Dear Editor,

Guess who created this suicidal ³diversity² program? It was the smartest man in the Senate, the loudmouth Schumer , when he was House minority leader.

“Political correctness is at the root of this attack. Saipov entered the U.S. in 2010 on the useless, fraud-ridden Diversity Visa Lottery (DV) that should have been canceled on 9/12, 2001. When he was in the U.S. House of Representatives, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) attached an amendment to the 1990 Immigration Act that created the DV.²

Trump is right. This program must be scrapped immediately, along with the suicidal chain migration program.

Simmons, Bloom Call for Constitutional Convention to Fix Broken Government

ALLENTOWN – Answering rising calls to fix broken state government, Rep. Justin Simmons (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton) today detailed his support of a new proposal to host a limited constitutional convention in Pennsylvania, similar to the one that occurred in 1967.

Simmons joined together with Rep. Stephen Bloom (R-Cumberland), author of the proposal, to explain what a convention could look like during a news conference at the Lehigh County Government Center in Allentown.

“Everywhere I go in Pennsylvania, I hear from citizens who are rightfully frustrated with inaction in state government,” said Simmons. “The public has been demanding some of the same major reforms for

Pennsylvania Liberty Alliance Urges a “Yes” vote on Tuesday’s Referendum

Share

Hello, On November 7th, Pennsylvanians will be voting on a property tax exclusion referendum. Some people are not aware of this ballot question, and others are confused as to what the question is about. The PA Liberty Alliance strongly recommends a YES vote. Here is a short explanation and a little bit of history…

In 1998, the legislature enacted a “Homestead/Farmstead” exclusion that could have provided up to a 50% exclusion of the median assessed value of homestead/farmsteads (i.e. primary residences) within the taxing district. In other words, this could have allowed a property tax reduction of approximately half the median property tax bill in the school district, county, or municipality.

Since then, this exclusion was not used for anything other than the
