East Penn School Board “Lets lower the taxes”. Hold on though, don’t get too excited

Hold your surprise, it seems like all the school board members suddenly want to lower your taxes. This may appear to be a strange request, especially after they just voted 8-1 to increase your school taxes by 3.78%. So what gives? Well, it turns out that the Superintendent may have found some extra money laying around. That’s right, extra money, and almost $100,000 to boot, wow! What will they do with this windfall? Well, that’s the exact question the Superintendent posed at the school board meeting on 6/8/2015. The Superintendent was looking for the boards guidance, so he asked them and they responded with gusto. A vast majority said apply it to the tax increase we just approved. The only board member that voted against

East Penn School Board member suggests openness to promote Foundation

You may not be aware, but East Penn School District is trying to start a Foundation that would allow businesses to divert some of their profits to the District and in return, receive a tax write off. It turns out that the District has already had one meeting on this topic, with Superintendent Schilder saying it was attended by only 8 individuals. According to the Superintendent there is another meeting scheduled, but during his report at the school board meeting he failed to mention the date, time and place. In an effort to inform the public, School board director Ms. Donches stated that the next meeting would take place on June 16th.

In order to promote and help the District we are including the Continue reading…

East Penn Superintendent and Treasurer present flawed budget…

But it still passed 8-1.

You read right, even though the school district has two policies stating the budget have at least 5% of the total budget as a reserve, that would be $7,000,000 in a $141 million dollar budget for this coming year, the administration presented a budget that was short of the required reserve funds, and 8 members of the board voted to support it anyway. Only one board member, Ms. Donches, voted against this budget.

The same board members who approved this budget, also voted to allow Superintendent Schilder to cut 10% of his principles budgets. This 10% directly funds items relating to student education and safety. Again only one board member, Ms. Donches, voted against these cuts to the

Muller strikes again, forcing yet another unnecessary County showdown

What is it with Lehigh County Executive Tom Muller? Also known as Mr. Pinocchio and why does he insist on ramming through last minute demands on the Lehigh County Commissioners (LCC)? His latest demand to the County Commissioners is that they vote to approve his decision to award Good Shepherd the contract to manage Cedarbrook Nursing Home.

On the face of it this it may seem like a reasonable choice, but if you attended the Commissioners meeting last night (6/10/15) you would have heard the Commissioners side of the story and it is quite different from Executive Muller’s position.

It all started months ago when it was decided a change of the management team currently handling Cedarbrook was needed, and ended last night

East Penn School Board’s Bully Ballard Strikes Again

But strikes out on his censure vote against EPSD Board Member Ms. Lynn Donches

Monday night’s East Penn School Board meeting presented an unusual and serious censure motion against school board member Ms. Lynn Donches. The initiator of this motion was another sitting board member, Mr. Charles Ballard and the reason for this censure appeared to be Mr. Ballard wanted to prevent Ms. Donches from asking for budget information.

Ms. Donches has been voting nay to the bill list because of this lack of detailed budgetary information and that appears to have pushed Mr. Ballard to the point of his vindictive censure motion against her.

It was a fitting start to the meeting when the children from Willow Lane Elementary school sang a

At Monday evenings East Penn School Board meeting, a meeting where School Board Director Charles Ballard placed a motion to censure fellow School Board Director Lynn Donches, the East Penn public finally had its say. With a packed house in support of Ms. Donches, citizen after citizen went to the podium to support Lynn Donches and inform the School Board and Ballard just what they thought of the abuse that Lynn Donches has endured.

Over the last three and a- half years, the East Penn School Board and Administration has put up artificial road blocks to the requests of Ms. Donches for details of the Budget line-items and expenses entailed. But Lynn Donches holds dear her responsibility to the taxpayers and students of East Penn
