Stand for Life: Remembering Roe v. Wade + Darkness of Abortion

Share

January 22, 2016 PPN Weekly eNews

PHILADELPHIA—For 43 years since Roe v. Wade—and for decades before that landmark case—abortion has been an ugly subject that many tried to hide under cover. But thePennsylvania Pastors Network (PPN, www.papastors.net) says abortion must be one of the topics brought to light by pastors—especially this month.

“This fact is, we can no longer ignore abortion in our churches,” said PPN President Sam Rohrer. “Many may be struggling with the scars of abortion in their own lives, and looking to the church for help, healing and restoration. Additionally, we must equip our people to stand up for the sanctity of life in their own communities, states and across the nation. In 2015, we were all awakened

Starting an Important Debate

Article I, Section 2 of Pennsylvania’s Constitution affirms: “All power is inherent in the people, and all free governments are founded on their authority and instituted for their peace, safety and happiness. For the advancement of these ends they [the people] have at all times an inalienable and indefeasible right to alter, reform or abolish their government in such manner as they may think proper.”

However, Pennsylvania’s Constitution provides just one practical way for people to alter their government: the amendment process, which requires statewide voter approval after

Six steps to fix the Pennsylvania Pension Crisis

By Rich Shuker

We all know fixing the pension crisis should not be a problem for our legislators. Kerry Benninghoff , a House member since 1997, told me that the legislators in Harrisburg are very intelligent people, so fixing this problem should be very easy. When questioning this senior House member he addressed the fact that the junior legislators have never received the audits and financial reports. Why? They were needed to ensure an educated vote. This financial crisis was caused by all the House and Senate members in office at that time. Legislators, like Mike Turzai and Chris Ross, will tell you that their vote was

Mensch Launches SavePA to Collect Taxpayer Ideas for Cutting Government Costs

It is the responsibility of lawmakers to cut costs and manage the commonwealth’s assets, but every citizen can play a role in making government operate more efficiently.

I’ve created a SavePA page on my website to receive your suggestions regarding ways to reduce government spending and save tax dollars. This has never been more important than now, with a governor

Senate Hearing on AG Kane was Theatre of the Absurd

Share

Under the Pennsylvania Constitution, the Governor can request the removal of certain “civil officials” outside of the impeachment process. After the suspension of Kane’s law license, and refusal to resign, a Special Committee on Senate Address was convened to determine if Kane should remain in office without her law license. On Tuesday, the Special Committee on Senate Address held its final hearing on Attorney General Kathleen Kane.

The hearing was eye-opening, to say the least. Although Attorney General Kane did not testify, her Chief of Staff, Jonathan Duecker, addressed the Committee in her stead. Duecker was frequently backed into a corner, mainly because his positions defied logic and were self-contradictory. When his statements didn’t put him into a corner, they were hedged

On Tuesday the Senate returned to session but with little progress made to resolve the ongoing budget debate. Legislative leaders met with Governor Wolf on Tuesday evening, and the Senate Appropriations Committee passed a bill to provide funding for the Department of Corrections to run the state prisons, which the Governor vetoed in the last budget sent to him in December.
