Pennsylvanians’ Safety Must be Top Priority

The Weekly Roundup By John McGinnis

While the plight of Syrian refugees is a compelling one crying out for a humanitarian response, the best approach is one that provides them assistance and protection near their homeland until the civil war there is resolved. I am against forcing the Pennsylvania taxpayer to provide benefits and aid, but highly recommend we all care for our fellow man in ways we choose to and think best.

Regarding Senate Bill 76 – The Property Tax Independence Act.

Senator Scott Wagner’s

Good Afternoon:

This week has been busy with many people visiting my Senate office in Harrisburg and many emails received regarding Senate Bill 76 – The Property Tax Independence Act.

If SB76 is passed it would eliminate school taxes on all real estate.

To be clear – local county and municipal taxes would remain in place.

The elimination of school taxes would apply to all real estate in Pennsylvania – residential, commercial and industrial.

To completely eliminate school taxes on real estate in PA the legislature has to find between $12-14 Billion Dollars of revenue from other sources.

Other sources mean new taxes, increased taxes, and lifting exemptions on goods or services not currently taxed.

There is no

PA Must Not Accept EPA Rules

by Beth Anne Mumford– from the Lincoln Institute. Beth Anne Mumford is also Pennsylvania Director of Americans for Prosperity

As of September 6, state lawmakers have exactly one year to make one of the most important decisions of their time in office: Will Pennsylvania submit an implementation plan to the Environmental Protection Agency as demanded under President Obama’s new carbon regulations?

For the well-being of every Pennsylvanian, it is imperative they choose not to.

The stakes could not be any greater for the Keystone State. Officially called the “Clean Power Plan,” this regulation would force Pennsylvania to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 35 percent by 2030. In so doing, it would effectively hand over control of our state’s energy grid to unelected

Terror Strikes in Paris–And The 2nd Amendment Connection

From the Lehigh Valley Tea Party Second Amendment Committee News Letter

On September 11, 2001, following the infamous Islamic terror attacks against America that massacred more than 3,000 civilized people, New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani famously declared, “Today we are all Israelis.”

On January 7 of this year, when Islamic barbarians slaughtered more civilians, this time in France at the offices of a newspaper, Charlie Hebdo, the civilized world resoundingly echoed: J’ Suis Charlie, “We Are Charlie.”

Once again, Islamic terrorists have struck against civilized people. This time, on Friday Nov. 13, the barbarians launched simultaneous attacks against “soft” targets at a concert, near a soccer match and at other locations. This time, more than 100 civilized people were mowed down

Petri Resolution to Caution Wolf, Obama on Accepting Syrian Refugees

Representative Scott Petri 178th District Pennsylvania House of Representatives Media Contact: Donna Pinkham

November 16, 2015

HARRISBURG – Rep. Scott Petri (R-Bucks) announced today that he will sponsor a resolution calling on Gov. Tom Wolf to reject the placement of Syrian refugees in the Commonwealth until the federal government establishes increased security procedures to sufficiently screen the refugees.

Petri’s resolution will also request that President Barack Obama direct the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to review its security procedures for vetting refugees and to send a report detailing the tighter security measures to the states under consideration to receive refugees.

Petri’s action follows the terror

For Property Tax Relief, Give Voters Control

| by JAMES PAUL at the Commonwealth Foundation

Should voters have the right to approve property tax increases? This is a central point of contention within a rumored budget framework that purports to provide Pennsylvanians with property tax relief.

In exchange for increasing the state sales tax to 7.25 percent—with higher amounts in in Allegheny County (8.25 percent) and Philadelphia (9.25 percent)—Pennsylvanians are promised significant property tax reductions, to tune of $1.5 billion.

Unless taxpayers are given proper control over property tax rates, however, nothing would stop school boards from large tax increases in future years. This could completely negate any tax relief doled out by the rumored budget agreement.

HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania House State Government Committee Majority Chairman Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) and 100 other state lawmakers sent the following letter to Gov. Tom Wolf today to express their collective public safety concerns regarding the governor’s decision to work with the Obama administration to resettle Syrian refugees in Pennsylvania following the Paris terrorist attacks.

“We were disturbed to learn that you will continue to welcome Syrian refugees into the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This decision places the welfare of individuals who live thousands of miles away above the welfare of the Pennsylvanians you were
