The News Media Past and Present

Share

By Jerold Levine

Many people today are objecting to how the American news media has become partisan, using phrases like “we’ve never seen” or “never before.” The “we’ve never seen” is true. The “never before” is inaccurate, and a result of historical myopia. Like the young who, in each generation, think that they are the first to have discovered sex, we can misperceive that the past extends only as far back as we can remember. Not only has America seen the kind of rabid media partisanship we have today, it has in fact been the norm for most of our history.

Newspaper articles from the Revolution through the early twentieth century disclose the hyper-partisanship of the press. As example, Founding Fathers accused

Pennsylvania Liberty Alliance President Answers Commonwealth Foundation Report

PA Liberty Alliance President, Ron Boltz answers Commonwealth Foundation.

Jennifer,

I understand the “cheer leading” aspect of this email, and I don’t fault your organization for making a loss look like a win. Indeed, I believe running this vote was a “win” as well, but probably for different reasons. I don’t expect victories every time and I’m glad this vote took place.

That being said, what is frustrating to those of us who pay close attention and are heavily involved in politics is the continued glorification by CF of House leadership. With a failure to get 26 “republicans” to vote for such a simple concept (and word has it many more were prepared to vote “no” to protect the unions if need be

Letter Writer opposes Local Police Radar

Share

To LVC Editor,

Dear Pennsylvania Representatives and Concerned Drivers:

By any measure of what is right, SB 251, arming municipal police with RADAR guns, should be voted down.

Despite 30 years of technological innovations, radar still suffers from the same reliability and performance issues that have made it unacceptable as evidence in a court of law. A research study(http://www.motorists.org/other/Radar_Test_Presentation.pdf) states that radar cannot meet the requirements of the Daubert test, which is a set of standards trial judges use to determine whether or not expert testimony is based on valid scientific reasoning and methodology.

One of radar’s biggest downfalls: it can’t distinguish one vehicle from another.

In areas with correctly set 85th percentile* posted speed limits, you

Letter Writer Highlights–Are We Drifting Away?

Dear Editor,

There is no truth to this—so you will say—if in fact you do not believe in God, Jesus Christ and his rule book the Bible. But and So—with that said —-let me also inject this —-There is no Neutrality in what your basic Presuppositions are and what your Worldview is—-The how you see things and the belief you hold are fixed—-these fixations guiding your worldview—–will be truths you believe to be true. With that said—-to the point; Sinful man cannot reason, nor logically unite perception with what is perceived in the reality of what is scriptural truth. This reasoning with its logic—-is deeply corrupted through Adam’s Sin/fall and is known as the—Noetic Effect of Sin. (Matthew 13:13 “…because they seeing, see

Questions Tax Exempt Status for Muslim Mosques

Share

Dear Editor, If Christian churches or Jewish Synagogues were to ever preach hate from the pulpit or via religious indoctrination I suspect that their tax exempt (501c3) status would be summarily yanked by the IRS and respective state government. But what about Imams who routinely preach and teach death to infidels and Jews and annihilation of same in Mosques? This begs the question: Should they be allowed to keep a government authorized tax exemption benefit funded by taxpayers? If there is proof of such negative hateful and divisive deliveries….either written or orally….logic would suggest American laws would prompt the cessation of the tax exempt benefit status. What does your legislator think? Richard Cheney, Maryland
