A witness told members of a new committee that 1 million people could soon face 90% benefits cuts. By Allison Bell | Think Advisor

Either Congress fixes the program that insures U.S. multiemployer pension plans, or 1 million or more Americans could face cuts of about 90% in their pension benefits payments sometime in the 2020s.

Ted Goldman, a longtime pension actuary, gave the members of a new congressional committee that warning Wednesday, at a hearing meant to give the members a basic primer on the nature of the multiemployer pension plan funding crisis their supposed to try to address.

“Time is of the essence,” Goldman said. “The more time that passes, the bigger this problem will become, and the harder it will

Trump has been aggressive in cutting red tape, but for the benefits to last Congress must act.

By Political Editors · at The Patriot Post/https://patriotpost.us/articles/55464-trump-oversees-biggest-cuts-to-regs-in-quarter-century

The Competitive Enterprise Institute has released its Ten Thousand Commandments, an annual report on the scope, size and cost of federal regulations. Those regulations amount to a “hidden tax” on Americans, as well as a severe limit on Liberty. The good news is that President Donald Trump has followed through on his campaign promise to cut federal regulations, and his initial efforts have produced the most significant cutting of government red tape in more than 25 years. Here are some of the highlights thus far per the CEI:

COMMENTARY BY

Star Parker is a columnist for The Daily Signal and president of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education.

It takes a lot of courage for a president to target almost a quarter of the federal budget for reform in an election year.

But this is exactly what President Donald Trump is doing with his executive order, “Reducing Poverty in America by Promoting Opportunity and Economic Mobility.”

We’re now spending more

Q&A With Rep. Kevin Brady: ‘America’s Back’ Because of Tax Cuts

Genevieve Wood / /The Daily Signal

House Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady, R-Texas, sat down with The Daily Signal to talk about the historic tax reform package passed by Congress and the impact it will have, and in some cases already is having, on individuals, families, and the economy. On the midterm elections, Brady says the key question voters should ask themselves is whether they want to go back to the old tax system—which is what he believes Democrats will try to do if they win a majority—or to keep pushing for further reforms.

Genevieve Wood: Congressman Kevin Brady, thank you for sitting down with The Daily Signal.

Kevin Brady: My pleasure, thank you.

Wood: You were just speaking

Barletta Welcomes SHINE Students to U.S. Capitol Continues to lead bipartisan efforts on behalf of afterschool programs nationwide

WASHINGTON – Congressman Lou Barletta (PA-11) this week welcomed four students and several teachers and administrators from Pennsylvania’s Schools and Homes in Education (SHINE) Program to the U.S. Capitol.

SHINE is a successful afterschool program in Carbon, Luzerne, and Schuylkill counties geared towards grades K-8 and focuses on a project-based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) curriculum. The program links schools and homes in order to help children build a stronger academic and social foundation.

“It’s always a pleasure to meet with students like Silvia, John, Joseph, and Ayden,” Barletta said. “Their

A Jacksonville business successfully won its battle with the city over their right to fly militaryflags, but the controversy over how city officials handled the matter isn’t dying down any time soon.

Jaguar Power Sports, a motorcycle dealership in the area, posted a video on social media indicating they had been warned by city officials for daring to fly pro-military flags on their building and had 24 hours to ‘correct’ the violation.

“That’s right, we just got a ticket … for flying military flags,” the manager is heard saying in the video. “They told us to take them down or go to court over it. Are you serious

With the midterms coming around the corner, Democrats are lining up new strategies to try to take conservative strongholds from Republicans.

Watch out for the Progressive Change Campaign Committee – this is an organization with the sole purpose of trying to convert fence sitters in conservative districts. Led by former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a mob of more than 400 progressive candidates surged into the training held by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. The other major speaker of the training was Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), another high profile progressive who has to fake parts of her political identity to maintain her position in the progressive movement.

He’s considering pardons for all 35,000 felons currently on parole in New York. He wants the votes.

By Jordan Candler · at The Patriot Post/https://patriotpost.us/articles/55463-cuomos-parolee-voting-decree-good-politics-bad-policy

Admitting that he’s “unwilling to take no for an answer,” New York Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo this week circumvented the state legislature by signing a dubious executive order authorizing voting rights for 35,000 parolees. The process is rather cumbersome, as The New York Times explains:

The mechanism through which Mr. Cuomo plans to do so is unusual: He would consider pardons for all 35,000 people currently on parole in New York, as well as any new convicted felons who enter the parole system each month. … Mr. Cuomo’s executive order would require the commissioner of the state’s
