Senate Committee Could Vote to Expand Educational Opportunity

Share

Dear CF Friend,

Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) have the potential to rescue hundreds of thousands of students left behind in Pennsylvania’s struggling schools. ESAs are an innovative education choice program empowering families with the financial resources to choose the best learning environment for their children.

Legislation introduced last week by Sen. John DiSanto would authorize ESAs for students relegated to public schools performing in the bottom 15 percent on the PSSAs. Families choosing to participate in the ESA program could use ESA funds on a combination of services, such as private school tuition, tutoring, and speech/behavioral therapy for students with special needs.

Every family knows their child is unique. Educational options in Pennsylvania should recognize and celebrate this individuality, rather

Rep. Barletta Statement Regarding Veterans Day 2017

WASHINGTON – Congressman Lou Barletta (PA-11) today issued the following statement in recognition of Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11, 2017:

“Veterans Day is a time to remember the courage of those who have kept us safe during peacetime and risen to defend our nation in times of conflict. These noble men and women – and their families – sacrifice their lives and liberty on behalf of their fellow citizens. Every year we observe Veterans Day on November 11th. On this day 99 years ago, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, hostilities ceased in World War I. Since that day, we honor all veterans

Legislative Update Friday, November 03, 2017 The latest news from the State Capitol Anti-Fraud Measure Signed into Law

Legislation to reform the local tax collection system to reduce instances of fraud was signed into law this week.

Act 38 of 2017 prohibits checks made payable to a tax collector’s name only. Under the new law, checks should be made payable to the name of the tax collector along with the office, title or position; or be made out just to the office, title or position and then be deposited into a separate bank account used only for tax money.

Previously, the Local Tax Collection Law did not specify how taxes are to be paid, so it was left to individual tax collectors to determine

2004 report said workers paid 35 cents an hour, one plant a ‘well-run prison’

BY: / the Washington Free Beacon.

Pennsylvania Democratic congressional candidate Chrissy Houlahan’s former apparel company was accused of working with Chinese “sweatshops,” a 2004 watchdog report claimed.

The report, authored by the National Labor Committee—now called the Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights—and China Labor Watch, detailed the working conditions in shoe factories in China. The report described one factory as a “well-run prison” whose workers are “in a trap, stripped of their rights.” The workers are said to work upwards of 100 hours a week for 35 cents an hour.

Unprecedented Gambling Expansion Bill Becomes Law

TAKE ACTION: A time-sensitive response to stop a casino from being built in your neighborhood.

It’s official: Governor Wolf signed into law one of the largest expansions of gambling that any state has ever proposed. What started as a simple idea – creating one phone number, 1-800-GAMBLER, to call for gambling help – turned into nearly doubling the number of casinos in the state and adding just about every gambling option a state can sponsor. Online gambling. The “crack-cocaine of gambling” – Video Gaming Terminals. Keno and online lottery sales. Pennsylvania is now the only state to sponsor all of these gambling options.

There is one thing you can still do in response to

What is Local Control?

Share

By Rich Shuker

It appears the definition depends on your information source. Is it our Founding Fathers, the Declaration of Independence, The Bill of Rights, The Federal Constitution, The Pennsylvania State Constitution or the Liberal anti American education system definition?

Let’s start with the basic definitions first:

Local means: existing in or belonging to the area where you live, or to the area that you are talking about.

Control means:

The ability or power to decide or strongly influence the particular way in which something will happen or someone will behave, or the condition of having such ability or power:
