New Republican Committee Members Achieve Rare Roll-Call Vote on Endorsements
What was not reported in the media this weekend about the Pennsylvania Republican Party Winter meeting was the rare call for a roll-call vote on whether or not to endorse candidates almost 4 months before the Primary Election.
“The significance of a roll call is getting party members on the record with their individual votes. Ordinarily, there is a voice vote without identifying who is for and who is against the endorsement. I don’t believe there has been a roll call on this vote for at least 10 years or more,” stated Lois Kaneshiki, President of the Blair County Republican Women, which unanimously passed a resolution in January asking the Party not

Bernstine Calls for More Transparency in Taxpayer-Funded Construction Projects
HARRISBURG – In an effort to promote transparency, Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) today introduced legislation to require full disclosure of contractual terms, known as project labor agreements (PLAs), on construction projects funded by taxpayer dollars.
PLAs are comprehensive, pre-hire agreements which, under existing law, include labor terms and conditions for construction projects, often incorporating terms from collective bargaining agreements of unions to be involved in the project.
When public sector employees in Pennsylvania commit crimes related to their work, there are laws in place to ensure that they won’t collect their pension benefits after they serve their sentence.
The problem arises when there’s some dispute as to whether a given crime meets the criteria for the forfeiture of a pension. In the case of former Democratic state Sen. Bob Mellow, for instance, there was a notable outcry in 2017 when the board of the State Employees’ Retirement System determined that he could collect his $245,000 annual pension despite having pleaded guilty to
Here at the Independence Law Center, we don’t like to file lawsuits. We much prefer to trying to work out issues with all sides — without going to court — all the while firmly standing on principle and the Constitution.
But today, we have filed a lawsuit against the Mechanicsburg Area School District on behalf of students in the Mechanicsburg High School’s Bible club.
Here’s Why:
It began early in the school year when the Mechanicsburg High School principal rejected a poster promoting the Christians In Action Bible Club because the poster included a Bible verse (Mark 16:15). The students contacted our Independence Law Center, which got involved behind the scenes and eventually convinced the school administration, based on applicable law,
