Let the BS begin; the EPSD 2016 budget primer

Share

The April 27th East Penn school board meeting started off with a bang. The fireworks began when a citizen went to the podium and gave a blistering account of several actions taken by the administration, one that appears blatantly illegal. It was also pointed out how the administration had not spent money budgeted for student safety, but still found the funds for pay raises for administrators.

Board member, Ms. Donches later followed by Ziad Munson asked the administration to explain their line item cuts after it was announced by Superintendent Schilder that he had instructed each Principal to cut their budgets by 10%. It seems the budget can be cut when it comes to education spending on students and

Campaign Night or Watching Cartoons at Home, Which was Best?

Share

By Janice Bowman,

Editor’s note, Ms. Bowman has been following Common Core for years and has researched it for years.

Tonight, I attended the League of Women Voters Campaign Night for the East Penn School District candidates and found just what I thought I would. Ken Bacher, Paul Champagne, and Rich Manthesz restated the talking points as we all know them. The questions could have been canned and answered for any school board campaign night!

I learned that it is as biased as I had called out on my question card. Since this question will never see the light of day with who we have covering our questions for the candidates, let me share it with all of you now in hopes you the student,

EAST PENN/EPIC CANDIDATES NIGHT FLOPS!

Share

Monday, May 4, 2015

The Candidates Night sponsored by the League of Women Voters and EPIC (East Penn Invested Citizens) was held at the Macungie Institute’s meeting hall. The event was called to introduce and hear from the seven candidates running for the East Penn School Board. Of those seven candidates, only three were in attendance, Ken Bacher, Paul Champagne and Richard Mathesz. Carol Allen, Charles Ballard and Chris Donatelli had previous commitments but their letters were read to the audience. Finally, School Director Wally Vinovskis was expected but did not show and did not notify the organizers that he was not coming.

As for the audience, there were 28 people and 3 news reporters present. A far smaller crowd than the same event produced

How Schools Use Medicaid Money to Pay for Truancy Officers, Deans and Healthy Eating Magnets

At a school board meeting in Henrico County, Va., two months ago, a panel of school district officials and board members had been left speechless.

School district officials were in the midst of crafting the district’s budget for 2016, and the five-member board had just heard a presentation from Assistant Superintendent for Finance Terry Stone, who outlined a $1.1 million plan to fund more than a dozen positions at various schools.

The proposal shocked the board members, who expressed their gratitude toward Stone and her team for crafting the plan.

“That’s incredible,” board member Lisa Marshall said. “Thank you. Did you pull that one out of your hat?”

“I find that remarkable and

East Penn School District – A Safety Review. East Penn School District goes proactive?

Share

At the April 13th 2015 East Penn School Board (EPSB) meeting, The public was presented a story about how the district was going proactive in its desire to keep the children safe! How? By hiring a School Resource Officer (SRO) or more accurately a cop/police officer. Is Emmaus High School so dangerous that the administration believes it is essential to have a hired gun walking around their hallowed halls?

It appears that when someone working at a school district says, “It’s for the children”, their actions speak louder than their words, and one should look at what the East Penn School District (EPSD) administration does, not what EPSD administration says.

Take the essentially secret teacher union contract that was recently voted

“Hillary Clinton found at the rotten center of the Common Core national standards initiative”

Share

by Bob Kellogg at EAGnews.org

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A veteran educator says parents can thank Hillary Clinton for the Common Core national standards that have been thrust upon schools across the country.

Even though most people probably believe that Common Core was developed during President Barack Obama’s term in office, the foundation of the initiative goes all the way back to the 1980s, reports veteran educator and now-commentator Donna Garner.

Back then, she tells EAGnews Hillary Clinton worked with other left-leaning education reformers such as Marc Tucker of the National Committee on Education and the Economy (NCEE), Ira Magaziner and then-Gov. Mario Cuomo, known

The real slack in the U.S. economy

Share

By Robert Romano : Americans for Limited Government

“You’re a slacker!”

That’s Heritage Foundation economist Stephen Moore’s apparent take on young people failing to enter the workforce — reminiscent of the depiction of Principal Strickland in Back to the Future — writing an op-ed in The Washington Times, “Young Americans opting out of workforce.”

In it, Moore points to declining labor participation by young people at the same time job openings are plentiful. The question is why?

“The labor-force participation rate is falling fastest among workers under 30,” Moore writes, noting “negative attitudes toward blue-collar work,” and young people graduating college without “basic” and “useful” skills.

There are plenty of jobs for “skilled and reliable mechanics, welders, engineers, electricians, plumbers, computer
