Campaign Night or Watching Cartoons at Home, Which was Best?

By Janice Bowman,

Editor’s note, Ms. Bowman has been following Common Core for years and has researched it for years.

Tonight, I attended the League of Women Voters Campaign Night for the East Penn School District candidates and found just what I thought I would. Ken Bacher, Paul Champagne, and Rich Manthesz restated the talking points as we all know them. The questions could have been canned and answered for any school board campaign night!

I learned that it is as biased as I had called out on my question card. Since this question will never see the light of day with who we have covering our questions for the candidates, let me share it with all of you now in hopes you the student,

The Candidates Night sponsored by the League of Women Voters and EPIC (East Penn Invested Citizens) was held at the Macungie Institute’s meeting hall. The event was called to introduce and hear from the seven candidates running for the East Penn School Board. Of those seven candidates, only three were in attendance, Ken Bacher, Paul Champagne and Richard Mathesz. Carol Allen, Charles Ballard and Chris Donatelli had previous commitments but their letters were read to the audience. Finally, School Director Wally Vinovskis was expected but did not show and did not notify the organizers that he was not coming.

As for the audience, there were 28 people and 3 news reporters present. A far smaller crowd than the same event produced

Oklahoma Defeats Push for Risky Article V Convention

by Alex Newman at The New American

After a long and arduous battle in Oklahoma, lawmakers late this week ultimately decided to quash various measures that would have put the state on record calling for a Constitutional Convention (Con Con) under Article V of the U.S. Constitution. The victory for anti-Con-Con forces in Oklahoma was especially noteworthy because U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, a Republican who has a positive and conservative reputation among most Oklahomans, was strongly in favor of calling a convention. However, in the end, lawmakers and activists told The New Americanthat the risks to the existing Constitution of calling a convention in the current political climate were simply too great.

On April 21, the state House of Representatives voted 56 to 42 to

Sixty-five years of duck and cover

By Don Todd at net Right Daily

In the 1930s, the theme song of the Democratic Party was “Happy Days Are Here Again.” What a change that is from the current unofficial theme song of the left which seems to be “Nobody Knows the Troubles I’ve Seen.” The left is in a constant state of high anxiety over impending doom. The cause of this doom changes periodically, but the message is always the same: “The end is near!”

People used to laugh at such eccentric notions; now the Democrats want to punish anyone who disagrees with their predictions of impending catastrophe.

In the 1950s, “nuclear holocaust” was just the thing to keep people up at night. Grade school children were called upon to hide

Conservatism and civil society

by Patrick Gary at Renew America

The Obama presidency has demonstrated a fundamental difference between modern liberalism and conservatism. As reflected by Obama’s dramatic extension of government into new spheres of social and economic life, liberalism believes ingovernment as the principal occupation and identity of America. Conservatism, on the other hand, believes in civil society as the defining mark. Consequently, conservatives worry about the effects of government overreach on the vitality of the institutions of civil society.

Conservatives worry that the federalization of healthcare will have corrosive effects on the doctor-patient relationship, and the religious freedoms of people who disagree with Obamacare’s mandates on abortion and contraception. Conservatives worry that federal immigration policies will damage local communities by creating a growing underclass of poor,

County’s fiscal watchdog sues county and police department to get access

by Rachel Martin at

Police in Allegheny County say there’s no need for an auditor to keep tabs on how they’re spending the public’s money.

County controller Chelsa Wagner is going to court to make sure she can.

Wagner announced a lawsuit Tuesday against Allegheny County and the Allegheny County Police Department. At issue is whether she is only able to check the math — making sure the numbers line up — or whether she can also determine whether folks spending county money are doing so efficiently.

While she’s confident she has that authority, a judge will decide.

Gitmo Terrorist Who Killed Army Sgt., Lived at Bin Laden Compound Freed in Canada

by Judicial Watch

An Al Qaeda terrorist guilty of murdering a U.S. Army sergeant and “transferred” from Guantanamo to Canada by the Obama administration has been released from an Alberta prison while he appeals his conviction for war crimes.

His name is Omar Ahmed Khader and he’s a member of Canada’s “first family of terror,” according to an international news report that confirms Khader’s father was an associate of Osama Bin Laden who moved his family to Pakistan to support the Afghan mujahideen in its war against the Soviet Union. In 2010 Khader was convicted of five war crimes, including throwing a grenade that killed Army Sergeant Christopher Speer in Afghanistan during a 2002 combat operation.

Khader spent around a
