Watchdog finds ghost teachers doing union work on taxpayer dime

By at the Franklin Center

Pennsylvania may be full of ghost stories, but a much more tangible kind of “ghost” has been haunting the state’s school districts lately. These ghosts are found in the form of teachers working for their local teachers union – nowhere to be found in the classrooms in which they were originally hired to teach.

The term “ghost teachers” (also known, more tactfully, as “release time” or “official time”) refers to a practice common in school districts across the country of allowing teachers to leave the classroom to work full time for their local teachers union. This is problematic from the perspective of taxpayers

Obama’s ‘All of the Above’ Energy Strategy Is All Talk

By Nicolas Loris / / Calvin Frauenfelder /at The Daily Signal

If the Obama administration were serious about an “All-of-the-Above” strategy and job creation were a top priority, it would get behind Atlantic drilling and open access to all resource production. (Photo: Olivier Douliery/SIPA/Newscom)

Nicolas Loris, an economist, focuses on energy, environmental and regulatory issues as the Herbert and Joyce Morgan fellow at The Heritage Foundation.

President Obama has made a couple of about-faces when it comes to offshore drilling in the Atlantic.

After coming under pressure from environmental activists, the Obama administration has denied access to energy resources and

Brussels and the Border

by Phyllis Schlafly at Eagle Forum

The bombs that killed 35 and injured 300 in Brussels, Belgium, shutting down the capital city of the European Union, followed a familiar pattern. Young Muslim men born to immigrant parents were inspired by radicals overseas to wage holy war against Western civilization.

President Obama, attending a baseball game in Cuba when the bombs went off, did not change his plans to go on to Argentina where he performed a tango with a professional dancer. In a previously recorded interview published in the latest issue of The Atlantic magazine, Obama said Americans have an inordinate fear of terrorism because we’re more likely to die from falling in the bathtub.

Terrorist Attacks Made Worse by Government Failure in Europe

By at Mises Wire

Tags The Police StateWar and Foreign PolicyWorld History

It was not long after last week’s horrifying bombings in Brussels that the so-called security experts were out warning that Europeans must give up more of their liberty so government can keep them secure from terrorism. I guess people are not supposed to notice that every terrorist attack represents a major government failure and that rewarding failure with more of the same policies only invites more failure.

I am sure a frightened population will find government promises of perfect security attractive and may be willing to allow more surveillance of their personal lives. They should pause a little beforehand and consider what their governments

Taxpayers Are Footing Bill for Solar Project That Doesn’t Work

David Kreutzer is the senior research fellow in energy economics and climate change at The Heritage Foundation’s Center for Data Analysis. In this position, Kreutzer researches how energy and climate change legislation will affect economic activity at the national, local, and industry levels.

As every 10-year-old who ever got a sweater for a birthday present has been told, “it’s the thought that counts.” That seems to be the guiding principle at the Department of Energy and the California Public Utilities Commission when it comes to solar power.

The latest example is the $2.2

Enough dirt, time for a real national security discussion

By Rick Manning at NetRight Daily and Americans for Limited Government

Easter has come and gone, Christ has risen, but the unrepentant hearts in politics seem to be digging deeper into the name calling that has come to characterize our American political system.

Quite simply, I am sick of it.

Within the past seven days Muslim terrorists have killed 28 in Brussels, Belgium, and on Easter set off a bomb killing more than 70 at a Christian event in Pakistan. The bomb was placed in a location designed to kill and maim the most children possible, all because they were Christian. Yet, Republicans who wish to run our nation are consumed with making spurious charges about one of the candidate’s sex

NO, Gays and ‘Transgenders’ Are Not Being Bullied. They Are The Bullies.

at The Blaze

Matt Walsh is a blogger, writer, speaker, and professional truth sayer.

This week, Gov. Phil Bryant of Mississippi signed a religious liberty bill protecting businesses and individuals from being forced to participate in gay marriages.

The legislation also fortifies the rights of business owners to keep their bathrooms segregated by sex, as all business owners have done up until 4.5 seconds ago. Meanwhile, a few weeks earlier, North Carolina signed a now infamous bill that will require men to pee in rooms with other men, and women in rooms with other women. Again in keeping with the reasonable and totally normal policies that have been in
