Dark Money part 1 – ‘Invalid’ dark money rules threaten grassroots politics

Part 1 of 6 in the series A License to Speak: The Dark Money Deception

by Jon Cassidy, Watchdog.org

You can find the truth about “dark money” just outside Denver, in the unincorporated neighborhood of Parker North, Colorado, home to a records management consultant named Karen Sampson.

Sampson is no shadowy billionaire political puppet master, but she got ensnared in an anti-dark money rule a few years before dark money was even a catchphrase.

When officials from nearby Parker, Colorado, tried to annex her neighborhood in 2006, she got together with a half-dozen neighbors to oppose it, mainly because they didn’t want a tax increase. They put out yard signs, went door

The real slack in the U.S. economy

By Robert Romano : Americans for Limited Government

“You’re a slacker!”

That’s Heritage Foundation economist Stephen Moore’s apparent take on young people failing to enter the workforce — reminiscent of the depiction of Principal Strickland in Back to the Future — writing an op-ed in The Washington Times, “Young Americans opting out of workforce.”

In it, Moore points to declining labor participation by young people at the same time job openings are plentiful. The question is why?

“The labor-force participation rate is falling fastest among workers under 30,” Moore writes, noting “negative attitudes toward blue-collar work,” and young people graduating college without “basic” and “useful” skills.

There are plenty of jobs for “skilled and reliable mechanics, welders, engineers, electricians, plumbers, computer

Will the Fed trigger a recession?

Share

By Robert Romano

Fischer’s comments were immediately followed by St. Louis Federal Reserve Chairman James Bullard, who suggested to the UK Telegraph’s Ambrose Evans-Pritchard that “zero interest rates are no longer appropriate for the US economy. If we don’t start normalizing monetary policy we’ll be badly behind the curve two years from now.”Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Stanley Fischer let the cat out of the bag on March 23 when he told the Economic Club of New York that raising the federal funds interest rate from its near-zero levels “likely will be warranted before the end of the year.”

So the writing is on the wall: the Fed is ready to start hiking rates again.

But watch out. When the

Nine of Pennsylvania’s 10 largest cities have more pensioners than workers

Share

By Eric Boehm | Watchdog.org Note this article was posted on the Pennsylvania Independent

Meet the new poster child for Pennsylvania’s municipal pension problems.

York is a mid-sized city of 43,000 residents in central Pennsylvania near the state’s southern border that’s facing more than $64 million in pension-related debt.

In next year’s budget, York will be expected to pay more than $10 million toward the retirement fund of former city workers. That’s more than a quarter of the city’s entire budget, leaving officials with the prospect of cutting nearly all city services, except law enforcement, to pay the pension bill.

“We have done everything possible to fix our pension woes, but they continue to mount. The system is simply broken,”

A group of retired Pennsylvania State Police troopers are among the most visible opponents of acting state police commissioner Col. Marcus Brown, who is Gov. Tom Wolf’s nominee for state police commissioner, according to an article on www.pennlive.com.Retired troopers, Republican leaders and the union representing state troopers are all telling Wolf, a Democrat who’s staunchly pro-union and anti-gun, to drop his call for Brown’s nomination. Much of the concern over Wolf’s bad choice was driven by Brown’s bad decision to wear the Pennsylvania State Troopers gray uniform without ever serving in the department, or attending the State Police Academy. Retired troopers have denounced Brown for his decision, while Facebookand Twitter pages have been created to draw attention to Brown’s decision to wear the uniform, according to

Government Unions

Government Unions

Dear CF Friend,

Government unions love to present themselves as champions of democracy. But their walk is far different from their talk.

Last week, National Review Online published a commentary by CF’s James Paul explaining how big city teachers’ unions are often some of the most undemocratic special interests in public life.

Consider: the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers (which was recently sued for pulling “ghost teachers” out of the classroom to do union work while on the public payroll) has not allowed teachers to vote on whether they want union representation in 50 years!

In fact, only one Philadelphia School District employee remains, a librarian, who participated in the last such election in 1965.

Proposed PA Constitutional Amendment

From: Representative Russ Diamond

To: All House members

Subject:Property Tax Elimination

In the near future, I plan to introduce a joint resolution to place a Constitutional Amendment on the ballot so voters can decide whether to eliminate all property taxes in the Commonwealth by a date certain.Acquiring, possessing and defending property are declared as Inherent Rights of Mankind in Article I Section 1 of Pennsylvania’s Constitution. That declaration was made by contemporaries of the authors of the Declaration of Independence, which cemented the idea that governments are created among men to secure such rights.Currently, these rights are being abrogated by circumstances within the Commonwealth and its political subdivisions,

“Hands off” list allowed individuals with potential terrorist ties to enter the United States

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that on February 13, 2015, it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to obtain a copy of an Office of Inspector General (OIG) report about an alleged “hands off list” used by the Obama administration to allow individuals to enter the U.S. who had previously been barred because of suspected terrorist ties. The suit also requested any and all records of former DHS Inspector General Charles Edwards regarding the OIG report.
