Obama takes swipe at Christians – Again!

‘I was about to veer off. I’m pulling it back’

by WND

President Obama welcomed Christian leaders to the White House for breakfast Tuesday to “pray and reflect on Holy Week and Easter” and then made a speech in which he again took a swipe at Christians.

Obama said Christians are supposed to love all their neighbors but that he sometimes hears “less-than-loving expressions by Christians,” and that concerns him.

He quickly added, “But that’s a topic for another day,” to laughter and applause.

He then joked: “I was about to veer off. I’m pulling it back.”

Rev. Franklin Graham is among the religious leaders who have criticized Obama for leading an administration that displays an “anti-Christian bias,” as WND reported.

Graham scolded

Dark Money part 6 – May the many choose to be one?

Part 6 of 6 in the series A License to Speak: The Dark Money Deception

by Jon Cassidy,

AP Photo/Tribune Review, Sidney Davis

SPEECH AND MONEY: There is “only one legitimate governmental interest for restricting campaign finances,” Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas wrote, and that is “preventing corruption or the appearance of corruption.”

Campaign finance regulation has always been a threat to free speech. Dark money regulation is a different kind of danger.

For the zealots, ridding the world of dark money means sunlight and transparency, a block on billionaires buying elections in secret and hijacking our democratic system of government.

But if the dark money regulators are successful their victory will mean robust public debate only for those who

Dark Money part 5 – Insiders craft speech rules to trap outsiders

Part 5 of 6 in the series A License to Speak: The Dark Money Deception

by Jon Cassidy,

OUTSIDER: Michael Quinn Sullivan, left, president and CEO of Empower Texans, is fighting state campaign reporting rules that target his organization. He is seen in this photo with Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

The Texas Ethics Commission recently approved new political speech regulations aimed at “dark money.”

The commission and the media have presented the new rules as a corrective by sensible moderates forcing shady political extremists to operate in the light of day. Really, it’s just a classic struggle between a political insider and an outsider.

The insider is Joe Straus, speaker of the Texas House. The

All of veteran’s guns seized after false allegations

Dispute with neighbor leads to confiscation

by WND

In an incident that is being repeated all across the country far more frequently than is reported, a retired Navy veteran in Glendale, Arizona, has had his gun collection confiscated by authorities after an irate neighbor filed a harassment order.

Rick Bailey, 56, is a disabled retired software-systems engineer who has slowly accrued a collection of 28 firearms, with an estimated worth of about $25,000. The collection was seized after a neighbor claimed Bailey threatened to shoot him, an accusation Bailey calls “bullsh-t.”

The dispute between the neighbors started several months ago regarding dump trucks used in a landscaping business. Bailey said his neighbor would park two “large, smelly” dump trucks in the small cul-de-sac

Dark Money part 4 – Politicians ‘disinfect’ citizenry with dark money rules

Part 4 of 6 in the series A License to Speak: The Dark Money Deception

by Jon Cassidy,

STIFLING: Texas Election lawyer Trey Trainor says governments can use election laws to ” intimidate people into not speaking,” says Trey Trainor, a Texas elections lawyer.

“Sunlight,” Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis once wrote, “is said to be the best of disinfectants.”

You’ll find the quote in the first sentence of the latest federal appeals court ruling on political speech, like many before it. The Supreme Court has said that it is politicians who need disinfecting. The danger of quid pro quo corruption – money for votes – is serious enough that the court has approved laws requiring politicians and

The geopolitics of oil go round and round

By Marita Noon–at Net Right Daily and Americans for Limited Government

Many complicated factors contribute to the global price of a barrel of oil, but two of the leading components are supply and risk—and both have the potential to escalate in the days ahead. The current region-wide sectarian war could easily bump oil prices up dramatically. And, the expected nuclear deal with Iran could drop them—dramatically.

Oil price predictions today play like a game of roulette, or a carnival barker of days gone by, round and round it goes, where she stops, nobody knows.

A few weeks ago, addressing the need to open up access to Mid-Atlantic oil resources, I wrote:

“With the current oil abundance, it may seem like an

Do elections still matter?

By Rick Manning at Net Right Daily and Americans for Limited Government

White House spokesperson Josh Earnest declared the treaty ratification process dead when he told the White House press corps that those who disagree with Obama on global warming should not have a say on a treaty the President negotiated with China that would be economically disastrous for America.

A treaty that, presumably, America would be expected to abide by.

In his statement, what Earnest was really saying is that elections don’t matter unless people who agree with us get elected, and we don’t have to abide by decisions of the American people because we know what is best even if no one else does.

Just a couple of

Dark Money part 3 – Speech regulators fine woman over Facebook post

Part 3 of 6 in the series A License to Speak: The Dark Money Deception

by Jon Cassidy,

CAUGHT IN THE FLOOD: Diana Hsieh is just one person caught up in the rising tide of campaign regulations.

Never in a million years did Diana Hsieh think she could be fined by the state of Colorado for a political Facebook post.

However Orwellian that sounds, had Hsieh posted in Texas she wouldn’t have faced a fine but a felony conviction. In casting their regulatory nets across the country in an attempt to capture “dark money” and blunt the political influence of billionaires, legislatures and regulatory agencies are ensnaring ordinary citizens.

As an individual, you still
